Batman: I have breville 2400W.

It's amazing compared to ceramic. But the element is very small. I thought it would work with a big pan but there is a 10cm radius in the pan that burns the food and the rest of the pan is ok. So relegated to boiling water or low heat cooking.

Ceramic is the worst kind of stove. The larger induction cooktops have larger elements, but a really thick bottomed pan are meant to work better with smaller elements than light bottom pans.

Yep, ceramic is awful

I think the thing with thick bottomed pans is to heat slowly, so from that perspective a smaller burner/element is good.

I have a spare Westinghouse single element you can try out if you want. My new rental has a Bosch induction cooktop installed so I am not using the Westinghouse. I'll be over to PN later next week

A few years ago, we bought a single 200W unit from 1-Day, just to have a tryout, and it works excellently We were thinking of getting induction when we redid the kitchen, but the cost and difficulty of getting the required wiring from the other end of the house out this out of reach. Maybe they stiull have them? Quite useful to have an extra plugin element in the kitchen for when the cooktop is full.

We just used the old wiring. Has worked fine for years. So long as it has an appropriate circuit breaker so you can't draw too much current, like turning on every element at once.

Induction hob glass can be quite easy to damage if you let the pan boil dry. They glass can then get damaged as the pan overheats. My parents damaged the surface of there one after using a coffee pot that had a water cavity in the bottom , and it boiled dry. I have also been to quite a few open homes where you can see that the induction hob glass has some damage to it, especially where the house has been used as a rental. Not sure if it affects the life of it or it is more prone to breaking in the future.

The ceramic itself is pretty durable, so I think it's only really cosmetic. You'll see the same on ceramic infrared cooktops (the ones that glow red) after some use.

I think the newer & higher-end cooktops sometimes have boil-dry sensors that will cut the power if the pan goes above sensible frying temperatures.

I have single standalone portable induction which I never used. Tried that it works, just it. Greenlane, Auckland if somebody wants it. Small donation would be expected.
