When the motor in my loud rangehood died I just pulled it out and installed an inline centrifugal fan in my roofspace. Not as quiet as a fully externally mounted motor but much quieter than having one at face height inside your hood.

I used this fan here which you can get with a wireless touch panel for controlling it.

Probably. The stuff I had was an offcut, it originally had foam on one side but that had crumbled.

I got my parents a Schweigen unit and they rang to say both the rangehood and their new Bosch dishwasher were broken...

But that's because they couldn't hear either of them while they were running.

Very cool approach from Schweigen, but be careful not to put the motor in a location that will bug a next door neighbour :-)

I still have a Schweigen 90cm underbench unit for sale. Brand new in the boxes, retail $4300, the FS listing is here. Although there's a substantial discount offered already, I would entertain offers.

I have a Bosch 86cm integrated one and on the lowest setting it's genuinely barely audible. Obviously it's not moving enormous amounts of air but it's enough 90% of the time - I only need to use the higher settings if I'm cooking meat at high heat.

Such an improvement from my old F&P, which was probably as loud on its lowest setting as the Bosch is on its highest. I'm happy as I really wanted the Schweigen but couldn't fit it into the budget.

I have recently install the current model sixty cm Bosch in a new kitchen and find that quiet and effective also.

As with @yann. Got sick of the noise from the inroom fan and installed a Schweigen with external fan. But way above the stated budge. Unbelievably quiet, and you definately need to turn it off (or open the adjacent window) if lighting the fire. Depends how much you like a smoke filled room 😁. BTW it is only quiet inside the house, it's a bit like a jet plane flying past outside - a quiet one though.

I'm afraid Mike is correct:

If the motor is integrated into the hood, then if it's quiet, that's because it's moving a small volume of air.
