Yes. Can you be more specific? I'd do LED downlights with an insulate over rating, plus LED spotlights for work areas. You can have decoratives ones too.

This is our kitchen, I want LOTS of light and this is barely enough for my preference especially since half of them aren't working due to the transformer they use not working properly. I can get the transfomerless version of these exact lights but their exact placement means I create a shadow with my head when I lean over the counter to work. If I move them a few inches forward into the living area it might help, but I don't want the lights in my eyes when I am chopping with my razer sharp kitchen knives!

Those are fairly poorly positioned lights, both the spotlights and not having a downlight in there that I can see. I'm not surprised it's dark. It was probably done on the cheap.

I'd move the spotlights to more like above the seats, maybe not quite that far. If you don't want to be blinded put a more diffuse light source in, something larger. I'd also put four more downlights in the kitchen area. My kitchen of the same size has four ceiling lights with 20W CF bulbs, and I want three sets of area lights similar to what you have, one for each bench.

Hang pendant lights over the counter, but would have to be CFL not LED as LED is far too directional for pendants.

The viribrights work great in the pendants I have tried them in, spun alluminium ones so its not wasting light hitting the dark grey metal like a CFL.

Anyone able to provide links to the items they are suggesting. ECC lighting suggested :

http://www.ecc.co.nz/Product.aspx?p=1278 But at $1500 was a little outside of what I wanted to spend. We have 4 downlights in the kitchen previously, but it replaced them with these as they were more directional.

Yeah, thats what you get asking ECC for a recommendation. I saw a nice T5 hanging fitting at one of the lighting plus or direct stores. Was only 28 watts not a 54w tho so of little interest to me.

I meant frosted glass pendants where I use halogen version of normal globes.  I'll take a photo and upload sometime, might be late tonight as lots on.

Like this, but we have 3 and not the 3 on a bar but the individual ones.

Viribright LEDs are from Bunnings. The 8W is brighter than the old 11W, look at lumens rating. And keep your receipt, there is a failure rate of about 15% in the first week or two.

Not keen on the hanging one with the multiple LEDs on it, had one like that and the shadows it makes are horrid with many edges etc.

Have you considered making them with a continuous light source vs many point sources?

Yes, was a bit early in the morning...  The 3-on-1-bar does not look as nice and is too close together.  It is hanging over a 3.1m granite top.  The ceiling is 3m high, the cabinets are 2.4m high.  All other fittings are recessed with Viribright 8W LEDs which give performance (in a recessed fitting) similar to a 100W Philips Softone.
