All these comments seem to suggest that the downlight versions have better colour and quality of light....I'll pop into lighting direct and hopefully they have some on display so I can see it in action and decide for myself.

There are 18W Philips down lights in a very plain white box selling for around $70 retail, someone recently mentioned here about $35 trade, which have a very nice colour. Don't think I've ever seen such nice LEDs. They have now also developed LEDs with are (I think) 130 lm/W tested at rated current and when warmed up (unlike many other's theoretical, extrapolated specs) which should soon make their way into products.

Philips LEDs is a good choice as they used their years of phosphor knowledge from CRTs to develop better LEDs. Just be aware that Philips light fittings do not always have Philips LEDs, just like our Smeg fridge has Daewoo electronics and a Samsung compressor.

VitriBright range available from Jaycar. As posted before, Bunnings do the 5W and 8W model, and the money wasting old 11W model. They claim all have a CRI >80, and the 10W model is dimmable. Jaycar has added a few to what they (claim to) stock, but I've never seen stock available for on-line purchase so don;t know if it is only available in AU?

I haven't seen any Viribright in Jaycar near home (wairau park), but I'm in Sydney for work right now and the local Jaycar has a full range including the PAR38s.

The Electus NZ web site says "temporary out of stock" for all models. So it is AU only, or they can maybe do a special order. Can't recall ever seeing the Jaycar web site having stock, and some of the lamps have been listed for probably 6 months or more now.

Pricing would be appreciated for:
SL2217 neutral white 10W screw

Thanks. The same bulbs in different fitting/colour is the same price, and the other 2 we can buy at Bunnings already.

Note the Jaycar table that I've previously linked to (or rather Freitasm kindly edited my post, thanks) says the 18W is beyonet but it is actually screw.

I've recently purchased a dozen or so LED light bulbs from http://www.led-lighting-nz.co.nz/. They have a physical store, although not very big, but have a reasonable large selection of LEDs. I quite like the warm colour they produce, you would hardly notice they are LEDs unless you've been told. A 10W LED light bulb costs about $30 each.

I think thats the one over pbtech in wairau. Anyway went in and they were selling all sorts of stuff that looks like its straight off alibaba. Woman had no idea about SDOCs when I asked for the downlights and many of the psus had the single insulated wires hanging out which is not legit in anycase. Perhaps they have had a visit and cleaned up their act tho?

Agree, their web site is full of spelling mistakes and it is stock standard stuff you get off eBay, Deal Extreme, Alibaba, etc. It might however be the good ones that passed QC rather than the Deal Extreme rejects. Or it might not be.

1)We have some stupid light fittings each with 5 bulbs in our lounge, that take small Globes basically they have the standard sized bayonet base , with a round globe that is half the height of the globe on the standard incandesent.

Is there a led equivalent sizewise?

Currently we have a mixture of cfls and standard virbright LEDs in it all off which stick out a bit.

I havent seen any LEDs that would fit nicely.

Also on a slightly similar note

2) We have a light fitting in our kitchen that eats halogen bulbs, I seem to be replacing the bulbs 2 or 3 times a year and when a bulb goes it blows the fuse on the fuse board, i have never heard anything good about these little halogen bulbs, most people i know say they are crap and the last lot i bought were Phillips.

Is this most likely to be the fitting, or normal for halogen bulbs

#2 will be gu10 lamps. Horrid things. Replace the fitting. Just as bad at arcing as G9 capsules so dont get them either.
