As mentioned earlier in this thread i need small (sizewise) b22 led bulbs of at least 40w equivelant, any ideas on what the smallest available are

Niel: My new favourite light bulb is Philips 13W 1000lm at $25 from Pack-n-Save and $24 from Bunnings. Very nice colour (tested warm white). It is longer and narrower than ViriBright 8W, to fit into narrow down light fittings. But it does state not to be used in enclosed fittings.

When they get cheaper I'll consider putting them in the chandelier, warm whites that is. Although I've been debating 6500K or higher back lighting in the living room since I watch my movies at 9000K on TV.

We switched back to all incandescent lighting this winter after blowing a few CFL's in to a cloud of fine glass and mercury.. The hallway light CFL was annoying as the meter board was inducing enough dribble current on that circuit to flash the CFL a few times ever half hour or so. Putting a old school bulb back in solved that.

But the more I thought about it, the more I liked the idea of going back to a few 150W light bulbs in the kitchen, bathroom and living areas. 900W of background heat instead of switching lights on and off and switching the heater up.

Exactly what I did with our old house which only had insulation in the ceiling and that was only about 1 inch thick due to age. A distributed heat source works well for evenly heating your room, rather than 1 heater blasting away in the corner.

That's until I got an old window mount heat pump and set it up to blow air from one room into another causing circulation air flow through the passage back to the living room.

Btw. that heat pump is now surplus to requirements so if anyone is interested in Pakuranga, Auckland. Over 3kW of heating. I've mounted it by unscrewing a window and adding a support bracket, plugs into a normal socket as it consumes only 1kW. Only ever had issues around October when it would freeze up in the early morning hours. PM me if anyone interested, will be a while before I get around to list it on TradeMe.

I see these new Philips series is in Countdown also, but Botany Downs has only up to 10W and only warm white. But my big issue is Countdown wants $25 for the 10W where as from P&S and Bunnings you get 13W for that price.

We had a very poor success rate with CFL's at our old house. They never exploded but some wouldn't work out of the box or only worked for a short time. They were an expensive waste of money. We won't be buying any more.

Most supermarkets don't stock 150W bulbs unfortunately. In Hamilton our nearest supplier is Mitre 10.

Nor do Bunnings (Christchurch). I asked if Philips made neutral white CFLs and the staff member said 'yes, but we don't stock them'.

This afternoon I was at Bunnings Te Rakau Drive, East Auckland and they had a small qty left of cool white Philips 5W. Think it was like $13 each. Even warm white was running very low on stock, seems like they sell very fast.

Philips 13w LED ES bulbs at PakNsave Royal Oak this afternoon - $24.99 I think - < $25 anyway.
They had the warm White 3000k and Cool white ????k - Think they had some of the lower wattage bulbs as well.

Off topic a little -bought one LED 12v 50w Marexim branded Halogen replacement from Mitre10 mega yesterday as an experiment. <$20. Its got 5 LEDs. Warm white - 3000K

We currently have 6 x 50w 12v Halogens in our kitchen.

New bulb runs fine - actually comes on quicker than the halogens - definitely noticeably whiter tint than the halogens - they seem quite yellowy by comparison.

Hard to tell - but I think its probably pretty similar illumination level.

Not cheap but comfortably as bright and the same colour temp. Had one in by itself for awhile and you could not tell the difference in the light. Bit more then your one but have had no failures and at the time I got one from mitre 10 and it lasted three hours before it made a loud pop and went no more + it was no where near as bright.

I have been trying to find more of the 4 in a square MR16 recessed downlights to swap out my old ones for. Seem to be rare as now, not even seen any come up used on trademe which sucks.

Just stopped in there and they had some 5w, 8w and a couple of 13w E27 warm white bulbs.

However, none of the elusive 10w Philips LED E27 warm white bulbs. Drats.....

Last night I saw Ikea has a range of LED bulbs, mostly lowish power but not bad. Some people on this forum will be interested in the candle type and E14 bulbs with 360 degree spread. They also have some very nice fancy fittings (like chandeliers). I think it is by 2018 that Ikea will be stocking only LEDs, nothing else.

We just bought $1000 of furniture from Ikea, was 4 book cases, a TV unit and a computer desk. Nevada Furniture in Auckland imports it for you and you pick it up at the Mainfreight depo in Otahuhu, Auckland (can probably forward to other depos, and should be able to deliver also). You just setup a shopping list on the Ikea UK web site, get a PDF, and e-mail it to Nevada. A couple of days later you get a reply with the landed cost including shipping, insurance, customs, etc. They get a container in every 2-3 months and fill it with whatever people order. This month they got 2 containers, so must be doing well. The Ikea LED bulbs are around 4 Pound so probably $10 landed cost.

Our local Countdown now has full range of LED light bulbs. They had limited range 5w Philips bulbs but now have full range Panasonic. Just bought a 75watt equivalent for $18. Was concerned you might get shadows from the leds inside the bulb. But got home tried it and absolutely no difference from standard light bulb. Very pleased with light output of it.

HTPC Intel Pentium G3258 cpu, Gigabyte H97n-wifi motherboard, , 8GB DDR3 ram, onboard graphics. Hauppuage HVR 5500 tuner, Silverstone LC16M case, Windows 10 pro 64 bit using Nextpvr and Kodi

Can't find any info on Panasonic bulbs, do you have a part number?

Alpha City of all places are selling LED bulbs, and they have B22 for those that were looking. Also a range of cool, warm, and neutral with the web site saying they have stock. 10W 770Lm is $36.50. Brand is Nationstar - Chinese, but half decent web site. Looks like a legit brand.

While we are on the topic of LED bulbs sold at supermarkets - I noticed at New World that they have Philips GU10 (halogen replacement) 'MyLED' bulbs. Philips appear to have stuffed up their packaging - ratings marked are:

5W, 50W equivalent, 270 lumen.
6.5W, 35W equivalent, 380 lumen.

Unfortunately philips.co.nz doesn't have any contact details for lighting (no does it list the above bulbs). I intend to point out to Philips that a 50W halogen is typically 750 lumen.
