In Wellington myflick shows the 20.3c price though :-S

So I made the decision to switch back to Flick 2 weeks ago and I'm still waiting.

I called Flick today for a heads-up and they tell me that Electric Kiwi have re-designated our smart meter with a code that isn't compatible with Flicks system. Now they are unsure how long it is going to take to change us back to Flick as they have been trying to communicate with someone since the 1st November and have had no response.

*sigh*

anyone else had this issue?

Flick says its the first time they've seen this.

Perhaps it's Electric Kiwi's way of saying "Don't keep swapping back & forth". 

Personally I wonder if it's worth the hassle to change back between summer & winter for how much actual savings ?

Apparently loyalty is a thing of the past.  I am happy with electric Kiwi & will stay put.

@clive100 EK, even with the hour free power is quite a bit more expensive. I am now on average saving $20-$25 per week by being with Flick for a little more use. It was kinda good during the dry winter and stuck around for about 3mo but then it did get quite expensive. Going forward, I'll just bank these savings for the next power price spike as it adds up quite quickly and I am still better off.

Im mining crypto 24/7 so the power bills are quite high. Flick should make a big difference Im hoping.

haha... Thats why I changed to ElectricKiwi. At least I knew the price was constant and could calculate mining profits more accurately without the need to shutdown the mining rigs. :)

EK for me at low use now, is the same or slightly more costly than Genesis was. I might ask them if I can change to low user for 6 months, as we cook with gas and I have turned off the grid to HW, as solar HW is now taking care of it full time. At the last weeks level Im using 7.5kW per day, or 2800 per annum

I checked up with EK as to how often one can switch user plans, as we only benefit being on a high user plan for a month or two in winter: I was told such a switch could only happen once a year, and when I queried what that meant I was told that literally meant 365 days since the last switch. Can anyone confirm whether this is accurate?

Edit: for me at EK the break point between low and high user is 22 units/day, and you’re only using 1/3rd of that! Could well be worth calculating across the whole year to see if you’d still be better off as a low user even if usage is higher in winter.



Also, how can I check as to whether returning to Flick would result in cheaper bills? Will they give you an equivalent charge based off one of my EK bills if I sent them that? It’s not like I can look at their published rates and estimate it myself!

Thanks Jonathan. Ill go through my Genesis and EK bills for a full year. 19yo daughter has recently moved out so a benefit there, and I can get by solar only till about April I'd say or longer, as I use the free hour to top it up at 9pm.

From a legislative perspective, there is no limit as to how often you switch. you could change provider every year.

However, each company is under no-obligation to accept your request. So you could switch from EK and then attempt to switch back and they won't take you on as a customer. They also cannot obstruct you moving to another provider.

In short it will likely be an internal policy.

I got a call from Flick yesterday, offering customers who left before the winter spike a $75 credit if they come back.

How have prices been the past month or so? What are people in Wellington effectively paying per kwh, ignoring daily charges? Can anyone tell me what say what they paid the past month for how many kwh?

On EK, taking into account hour of power savings, I'm effectively paying 15.0c/kwh, and prices are static. EK's daily charge is slightly lower.

Speaking of actual numbers the last week was $0.25519/kWh (with genesis it would have been at ~$0.235/kWh mark).

PS: the numbers above are for the Wellington region and the meter configured for day/night plans.

Is that including your daily rate, or just the power? Does it include GST? I only pay 18c/kwh inc GST.
