I'm not using the scale on the side, I'm using the hover numbers, so they don't need to be doubled.

My understanding is it's summed over a half hour. So power used between 5.00 and 5.30 should be logged as 5.30. It's not, it's logging it as 6.00.

It's not estimated data. It reflects our usage patterns too well to be estimated. I will watch it over the next couple of days of course.

Does anyone else have a well controlled load they can compare with the usage graph?

Yes, I'm getting this issue too. My usage readings are off by 1/2 hour, and it's been like this ever since I joined Electric Kiwi.

I didn't get this problem with my previous retailer, Flick Electric.

Here I'm turning on my heater and taking a hot shower at just after 8:30am:

But the usage doesn't register until 1/2 hour later:

Because of this peculiarity, I can start using my "premature" Hour of Power a half-hour before the peak period ends at 9am, but update the HoP on the EK website to 9am-10am (where the usage is registered under the 9:30am and 10am data points).

Thanks @coolfu. That verifies what I was saying.

So if I'm using my free hour of power 5-6am, I guess I have to set it to 5:30 = 6:30am on the website.

Seems like this is probably significantly reducing the savings through the free hour of power for at least some if not all EK customers. You have to assume it's an error. I'll point it out to them today.

Did you consider Flick Electric as well? I think the average saving is around 15% if you do nothing, my overall saving since I moved is 25%.

IMHO, if you do not understand "spot pricing" then Flick isnt for you.

Spot market pricing changes every half an hour... at peak times.....would mean higher than average standard/low user rate plan fixed rates.

That's an old comment. I used Flick for a couple of years, I'm pretty familiar with how it works. I moved to EK because the spot price was consistently high for the past few weeks.

I'm also seeing the same thing where the spike in power is being shown 30 minutes later

Will be interesting to see what they say

Have you checked that your smart meter is actually synced at the correct time ?

If you have turned your appliances etc on at say 9.00am as I do. The graph will show low at 9.00am & spike high at 9.30am

@clive100 everything shows as expect when I was with Flick last week. We did have a power outage recently, so I could check the smart meter's clock. However two other people finding the same thing suggests it's not that.

If you turn your appliances on at 9am I would expect to see a spike at 9:30am, like you do. Since it's working for you it might be a bug in their systems that applies to a fraction of customers, rather than to everyone.

Mine appears to be correct so it does suggest a glitch for a few. Best to wait to see what EK comes back with.

Does this 30 min offset apper only to be affecting those who have recently moved to EK from Flick ?

I was on powershop previously

So you're saying that if I crank everything on at 9am I will see the peak at 9:30am instead? Following that logic, if I crank everything on at 8:30 am then I'd see the peak start at 9am which means I'd effectively be cheating the system wouldn't I?

No. If you set your hour to 9am, then it will take the readings at 9.30am (consumption between 9am and 9.30am) and 10am (consumption between 9.30am and 10am).

I was confused a little by the graph at first but @timmmay has summed it up as to how it works or doesn't as the case maybe. The free hour of power is the sum of the power used in the first 30min + the second 30min.

So on your graph if you selected free hour is 9.00am then the power usage reading at 9.30am + 10.00am will be the total KWH of free power as shown for that day.
