i had Contact Energy ring me on a cold call to save money on my power bill. i am with pulse and said good luck . The lady went through the plan to compare the two and at the end all she said was how is pulse doing it that cheap and pretty much hung up, in fact every company that has called me havent come close to what Pulse gives me and i would switch in a heartbeat if someone was cheaper.. Just a thought to people who want cheap power, look at pulse if they are in your Area.

Despite this on Pulse's website

At Pulse, we believe in transparency and that includes being honest and open about our pricing and offering product choices tailored to meet all customers' requirements
they seem to be the only retailer that doesn't actually put their prices on the website. Pretty poor in this age to not do that. Also, all the pricing they do have (fees, internet etc.) are all GST exclusive. Again pretty poor form when dealing with end users, not business customers.

It's just bad UX, the rates are in sign up > find my price

but you have to enter your personal details to get the price, not just your address like other providers

I am seeing a bunch of EK ads on TV lately. Maybe the rate increases are to pay for that?

I've been with Electric Kiwi on Movemaster for almost a month. It's been great. Saving roughly 25% in hour of free power, and a lot more with off peak prices and load shifting. I've also been turning off the hot water manually in the afternoon (before 5pm peak) and back on at 9pm when I use my free hour. Been easy to do the dryer, dish washer to start then.

I do wonder if their profit margin is higher because of our load shifting (off peak and free power) due to the differences in their margins (wholesale vs consumer rate) of off-peak and peak rates.

Also wondering the same, i have been with them for circa 2 weeks and adopted some of the same practices.

Overall so far it had been worth the change

You can look at the spot prices and work it out (another site here). Right now the spot price looks like it's about 18c/kwh and I'm paying about 14c/kwh, so right now they're losing money. Last night the spot price looked to be around 19c/kwh and I paid about 12c/kwh. Either I'm wrong there, they have a contract to buy power at lower rates, or they're losing money.

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

They must make some of the difference from the high daily rate

Nope, that's a form that gathers personal details which they retain to contact you if you don't proceed with a signup. Every other company I can find manages to actually tell you the price. These guys won't.

ok Pulses new rates have started and i have now gone from 10.044 a kWh flat rate , no off peak or peak rates, to 12.203 kWh flat rate and i have just done a powerswitch comparison and still no one is better. I use around 800kWh a month the last few months and pay roughly $220 a month which is broken down into Energy $80 and delivery charges of $113.40,

Just got an email from EK, my rates are rising 8.7% KwH. Daily unchanged.

They talk about daily rates, but these arent changing. They say they will hold these due to customer feedback and the kWh rates are changing due to wholesale rates

Yes I just got the same email today. Despite my annoyance as Kwh prices rising by a couple of cents, I think they should be commended for doing what they can to hold the low user daily rate at 30c - other power companies appears to be passing the 60c rate onto their customers as soon as they can....

They're up a bit more here in Wellington. About 3% peak, 20% shoulder, 10% off peak. Still not bad.

Same e-mail.

Bit annoyed that this is happening as we go into winter and we use the heatpump almost 24/7 just to keep it warm and dry.

I still think I'm getting the better deal out of any pricing change...
