Yes - sad to hear.  I have a an AlphaESS Smile T10-HV 3-phase system with 16kWh of batteries supplied by Solar Group, and on the whole I'm very happy with it.  The Alpha app is adequate for casual monitoring and control, and a Home Assistant Modbus integration is the icing on the cake for everything else.

Hopefully someone else will pick up the agency for local sales and support.  The kit is popular in Australia and the UK but clearly Solar Group couldn't make sufficient sales locally to cover their overheads.  Hope the staff I was dealing with aren't out of pocket and can find some new roles in what should be a sunrise industry.  Domestic and commercial solar penetration is woeful in NZ as there are no Government incentives.  Compare that to Australia and elsewhere overseas where solar is racing ahead.

I wonder if other solar installers are also feeling pressure.  With the demise of Solar Zero and now Solar Group it doesn't look promising.

Our local installer who are experts in solar with over 15 years of international experience and knowledge are absolutely run off their feet and planning on putting a second crew on, so what are these failing companies doing wrong?

The amount of positive info circulating on solar currently by the likes of TV and online coverage of Mike Casey and Rewiring Aotearoa are stimulating uptake but are their too many nooby installers trying to get their share of the PV pie as a result?

Sure NZ needs economic stimulus to promote domestic solar uptake but to give this as part of the reason for a company's failure doesn't really cut it in terms of knowing the market you are supplying.

So, the Tradedepot solar offerings are getting ever greater.  They now a few solar batteries from DAH Solar, which look like a whitelabel offering as DAH Solar make panels not batteries as far as i can see.  Anyway the price rivals direct imports from China which is seriously tempting. E.g. 5kWh $1599, 10kWh $2999, 14kWh $3999.  If i had a 48V hybrid inverter i'd have already pulled the trigger.  No one had any dealings with TradeDepots solar gear yet?

Just noticed Trade Tested is also offering batteries. E.g. a 13kWh one for $3500. See all of them here.

Any thoughts? I know Trade Tested doesn't have a good rep, but for those prices it's a steal.

Your links are to Trade Depot. Note that those batteries are only IP20 rated so indoor use only and not in a dusty location.

Does anyone have a good model to indicate how much solar a system gets per  hour during the day?

Keen to crunch the past 12 months of power usage to understand what could be covered by solar.

Can assume that from 10 to 4pm for example so long as power is below inverter it would be covered by the solor ?

Sorry I meant Trade Depot, I always mix the two. Yeah IP20 is fine.
It's a lot cheaper than most quotes for batteries I've received. Including a new Victron inverter and $2k installation to replace my solar-only inverter I'm looking at only $8k for 13kWh battery storage.

This may give you an idea: https://solarview.niwa.co.nz/

Otherwise the org’s I got quotes from all use a similar platform which uses a satellite view of your place and factors in weather and any thing that could impact performance

Just got an email this morning from a solar installer saying that Aurora (otago lines company) is increasing the export limit as part of some govt announcement (never saw it) heres the copy paste of the email.

In case you haven’t heard, Aurora Energy recently announced a significant change that benefits solar homeowners. In response to the Government’s plan to widen the voltage range from +/-6% to +/-10%, Aurora is now allowing increased export capacity for domestic solar systems. This is a fantastic step forward, helping homeowners get even more value from their solar investment.

Do you have a current inverter that is larger than 5kW? – We can increase the 5kW export limit to allow you to export at the maximum your inverter can produce i.e. – an 8kW inverter that was export limited to 5kW will now be able to export at 8kW.

Great news for the region - let’s hope the rest of the lines companies do the same swiftly !

Interesting, I wonder why Powerco have allowed 10kW for a while at least since last year and prior to the voltage spec change?
