Hi guys, I want to mount a new exterior light on one of the gables of my house, underneath the roof overhang. Is there any reason why I shouldn't just drill a hole through from the attic to put a new TPS cable through? I figure I drill the hole, put the cable through, put some sealant down and I'm all good

No problems I could forsee, just try and mount the base of the light in the centre of a weatherboard or whatever cladding you have to make it easier to mount.

If you want to know what best practice might look like, there is a relevant article in BRANZ Build Magazine this month - "Penetrations through existing walls".

Maybe finding a bit more about the electrical regulations would be handy as well! Are you aware that you are no legally allowed to liven this new cable until it has been inspected and tested!

Only if you write a TPS report first.
