Hi - has anyone any experience with the installation of a Nest thermostat for a Brivis Ducted Central Heating system?

I haven't done this, but did look into it a while back. From memory, the main point seemed to be that some sort of analogue converter was needed between the heater and the Nest, as it can't natively understand the signal that goes to the Brivis controller.

I also think I recall that a software update had enabled international time zones to be set on the controller. Unsure which version you would need.

The modern Brivis controllers use their own proprietary communications protocol between themselves and the heater. Which allows for things like controlling multiple heaters of one controller. Or having multiple controllers on 1 heater. Brivis do make a converter box that allows you to use any thermostat that just closes a switch to run a Brivis heater.

Problem is that modern Brivis heaters have modulating burners. Meaning as the room reaches the set temp, the heater reduces it's output to maintain a stable temp. Equivalent to what a inverter heatpump does. But if you only have on/off control, then you loose the modulating ability. How smart is the Nest thermostat, can it output a command to say a home automation system or a heatpump. Saying for example [heat room to 22deg]. If so, then the best setup will be the Nest thermostat combined with the Brivis thermostat. In a master / slave setup.
