Thats a peony.

The whole plant will die down, so wait until the whole thing goes brown before trimming the unsightly leaves etc.

It will come to life in spring.  Give it a bit of blood and bone during spring.

As for the poisoning you may have missed the opportunity to hose down the plant with plenty of water.

Weedkillers target most weeds and you might be lucky and the plant may survive.

I'd really like to see a picture of that on your plant. :)

But what he's referring to is this or something similar:

I have evidence some weedkiller bottle in the shed, undone job randomly spraying everywhere in the garden(another rose plants same still suffer from poisoning) and the look of the leaves(from my gardening experience before I came to NZ)

If you;re lucky it was just glyphosphate which is pretty useless on most plants and it will just lose some leaves and then come back to being fine.
