Hi all,

Pretty sure I know the answer, but if you have something that fails under warranty or under the CGA - let's say a car part that needs to be installed by a qualified technician - does the retailer have to cover the installation of the replacement part, or just arrange a replacement?

CGA applies to both goods and services. If you paid for the tech the first time, CGA should apply to the replacement.

I have seen practical difficulties where party A sells a good then party B installs it. Finger pointing usually results. But if party A sells and installs, then there is no doubt that a replacement also includes an install.

Depending on the circumstances, manufacturer has the right of repair too. They don't necessarily have to provide a replacement for you to have installed by your chosen tech.

Yeah, your scenario above is apt; part was sold by retailer (A) but installed by tech (B) - I'm happy for A to use their own tech this time around though.  I'm certain it's not an installation issue though, as two of these items were installed in the same place at the same time, and the other hasn't missed a beat.

I am in the same position, I bought an induction cook top from trade depot, had it installed by an electrician I know, and have since found out some of the digital display does not work. So to return it ill need the sparky back to disconnect it, and then ill need him back again once the replacement goes in. who pays for the sparky?
