This really gets me, while we debate the relative merits of Igloo Vs SoHo or the 'Skynet' law the rest of the world is actually making progress in providing content to people who want to pay for it.

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/12/08/ultraviolet_uk_launch_for_boxing_day_we_kick_the_tyres/

The content providers, in other parts of the world, are actually making it easy to pay for and enjoy media.

If we can know about this, why can't we have it?

The official UV FAQ states that although streaming is limited, downloads are available worldwide.

I haven't read the Ars article yet.

Wow, very interesting comparison between what UV 'should / could' do and an actual experience from an actual customer.

Made a disappointing discovery, although it is touted as independent, life long purchase, the codes are bound to a provider, so if they went defunct, you are likely to loose you subscriptions. There are competing vendors, and in one case, I have a code that is limited to a specific vendor (flixster) which I cannot activate on my JB account. I see a short and inglorious life for this format.

One of my colleagues at work uses UV and says good things about it.

I'm a geek, a gamer, a dad, a Quic user, and an IT Professional. I have a full rack home lab, size 15 feet, an epic beard and Asperger's. I'm a bit of a Cypherpunk, who believes information wants to be free and the Net interprets censorship as damage and routes around it. If you use my Quic signup you can also use the code R570394EKGIZ8 for free setup.

Pretty sure ezyflix and maybe jbhifi provide ultraviolet storage lockers

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

I can't see the point, and have never activated/used it on any of the disks I have purchased that go with it. As far as I can see it's a clunky, limited, DRM encumbered kludge. If you want a digital copy it's Better just to rip the actual movie disk with free software - better quality, no bandwidth burned, and no annoying DRM issues to contend with.

Yes they do, however they a not interchangeable, so if one were to go defunct, it's gone.

To make it worse, the fine print has "locker access charge may apply after one year from redemption". I see a quick death for this, like the digital copies before it (which was actually much better, but still died).
