KiwiNZ: I find it amusing that my Chromcasts plays better with my Windows laptop than my Android tablet

What *specifically* are you trying to from the tablet? What specific tablet is it, and which version of Android? You're not being very lucid with your comments - vague assertions about your "Galaxy S" and your "Tab S" etc...plus nothing that describes what you're actually having trouble with.

Care to elaborate so that maybe you won't just be ignored and someone might be able to help you?

Or are you just trolling?

Will chrome cast work if I plug it into my AV receiver (Onkyo NR-609) rather than my TV?

Actually looks like a compelling purchase.  I didn't realise Google Play Movies was available for NZ.

Yeah it works fine for playback, but the auto turning the tv on feature doesnt work even with CEC enabled on the reciever.

^ Your version of Netflix on the android device is too new. Downgrade to 3.7.1

I have mine connected to my Marantz receiver and it fires up the Panasonic TV just fine.

Here is something which is somewhat amusing and annoying, I can cast from Chome (browser) from my Windows machine, I can cast from Chrome from my iMac I cannot cast from Chrome from my Samsung Galaxy Tab S or my Samsung S5 so one cannot go from what is essentially a Google product to a Google product.

I have to say that apart from the ridiculous non-stop background images that use more data than expected (why oh why cant that be just turned off), the chromecast is a terrific little device. See my moan/warning here

I have Unotelly set up on my router and a samsung smart TV wifi connection  (set to the UK) with BBC iplayer, 4od and ITV set up.
I have found the apps very prone to buffering or just hanging for no obvious reason.

Likewise I have an amazon fire TV (network cable connection) with a few US TV/video apps and XBMC installed. XBMC is perfect. The TV/video apps still seem inclined to buffer or not respond from time to time.

(I am on Vodafone's Red network if that makes any difference)

However, I have been using my PC with the chrome browser extension installed to cast the web/pc versions of iplayer/4od etc to Chromecast and they run very smoothly with none of the buffering/hangup issues. I can only assume that perhaps the PC/browser versions of these services handle buffering and network connections better than the android/samsung apps.

I bought a ChromeCast yesterday.

First things I noticed is two of our TVs are wall mounted, and there isn't sufficient space behind them for the CC when the power adapter is plugged into it.  The CC comes with a short HDMI extender cord which would address this but leave the CC dangling off the back parallel to the TV. Fortunately the TV in the lounge has an HDMI port on one side (I had forgotten about this).  I think I'll just use it in this port so I can remove and unplug easily.

So I plugged the CC in the side HMDI port and it does what it says it will do.

I opened the CC app on my Galaxy 4 and it found the CC immediately, connected to our WiFi no probs.  It did a quick up date and we were in business.  Cast a few music videos from you tube. .  Reasonable quality (for you-tube).  Rented a movie from Google Play and watched it, no problem.  Sounded good through the stereo (via optical connection from TV). Will try some more devices and apps over the weekend.

Good device, just works, and does what is says it does.  Hopefully TVNZ OD and TV3 Now Apps catch up with it and allow a cast option.

I love it.

Ok, great, so how about please first confirming your exact Android OS version number - is it 4.4.2?

Also, what are you trying to do that wouldn't work with the Chromecast from your Galaxy Tab S 10.5?

EDIT: Sorry, just saw your subsequent post. So, Chrome on Android I guess doesn't have casting ability. Casting in Chrome on desktops is done via an extension, and AFAIK you can't use extensions in Chrome on Android. Have you tried this to see if the same thing can be achieved?
