ajw:

Slightly OT cannot justify buying a smart TV just to watch Netflix, Lightbox Etc as I have a perfectly good non smart older TV. Anybody know where you can buy decent quality media players here in NZ.

I previous bought  a box via Alixpress but after nine months it decided to die. I don't want to get burnt again.

WDTV does it for me. Plays practically everything

Cheapest option would be a Chromecast. You'll need to kick the stream off on a mobile device or computer browser window, though. I have an Apple TV4 which covers everything I want to watch via either native apps or airplay, and a Chromecast as a secondary device.

Oops, I meant media files rather than streaming. If your talking about streaming, forget WDTV, the post above is helpful

I personally think Sparks deal is a right royal rip off. Getting back to the old days of trying to get people sucked into internet plans. Especially when the price is the same as non committed "24 months" 100Mbps Fibre + Netflix with other ISPs. Come and go with whatever ISP you please.

Huh..If you don't like it don't sign up to it. It's not like they are holding a gun to your head saying sign up.
I think it's far better than the 24 month ISP contracts with a higher price in the second year.

What are you on about aside from trolling?

Im simply stating its not good value for money, ADSL and Netflix for the price of Fibre and Netflix on a non fixed term plan.

get off the high horse.

What on earth are you on about? ADSL and fibre are the same price so what does that have to do with anything?

Thats my point. If you can get fibre. If you cant, ADSL/VDSl is much cheaper elsewhere as is fibre, its $15 cheaper with other ISPs, the cost of Netflix, without being tied into a contract, plus only getting the Netflix discount for 1 year.

I just dont see how its value for money.

How is that a good deal?

If you don't think it's a good deal then as bartender said don't sign up. ADSL and fibre cost the same at most reputable isps so that is just trolling.

A free modem plus lightbox for 24 months plus 12 months of netflix is a reasonable offer. Spark is one of 3 isps (voyager and bigpipe) I would consider in the current market, and if they don't work for you then go somewhere else. Calling it a royal rip off is a gross over reaction and IMO borderline trolling.

Calm down. Everyone competes. Not every RSP is the same. If your on spark and your getting free Lightbox and free Spotify and you can get free Netflix for a year what's the issue? Now if every RSP was identical you could check numbers but they aren't

Something to watch with this.  Back when Spark announced a $5 price increase to some plans (including the unlimited Fibre100 that I use), they said they would credit existing home customers this $5 until September 2017 - http://www.sparknz.co.nz/news/more-data/

I've been receiving this credit without any major issue for the past few months, but I've just got my bill, and it appears by re-signing for 24 months to take this Netflix offer, I am no longer eligible for this credit, as it no longer appears.  The credit has also been reversed for the majority of the previous month since my re-sign date, so my bill is nearly $10 more than I was expecting.

Online chat with Spark seems to confirm this, with the $5 credit removed on any change to the existing plan.  They were able to help me with this, but any other existing Spark customers who were receiving the $5 credit and who have taken up this Netflix offer might want to watch their next bill.

I don't think this is a case of having my cake and eating it too?

Well you did re-sign a new 24 month contract as per current pricing, I don't see why Spark is under any obligation to keep your perks from the previous plan.
