Oh that's interesting.  I have thought you "cast" content from your tablet/phone to the dongle/device.  You're saying it's more that you instruct it to pick up the content?

It's OK ... you gotta get the hang of the controller buttons (what does what) but there's predictive text and it's not hard at all.

The thing from my POV re Spark Sport is, if I'm not mistaken (please correct me if I am), casting (e.g. to Apple TV) from a mobile device means being on wifi.  The PS's I have are on Cat 06 WAN from Spark Fibre then HDMI to TV.  Quality is the thing here, not speed of typing a web address.

Right i see.

I'll see if we can't get some sort of a response for you.
I suspect it will be a case of if it works all good if not, that support wont be at launch at the least.

much like a smart tv using browser... it could work, but does it actually work?

Yes, when you use a Chromecast, the CC itself does the streaming. The phone or PC simply acts as a remote control (e.g. pause the stream, rewind/ff). You can turn your phone or PC off, and the cast will continue. The obvious exception is screen mirroring (Android) or tab-browser mirroring (Chrome browser).

Thank for that ... I wonder if AppleTV is the same?  I have one of them in the mix, plus the two PS's as mentioned above.

EDIT ... I'm being stupid ... it must be the same, you use it's own remote ... doh

Apple TV AirPlay is a mix of playing the stream like a chrome cast, or pulling from the device doing the casting. Chromecast is a better model, but airplay if great for self recorded photos and videos if you have apple devices.

The other advantage of an Apple TV 4 is that the apps have a fair bit of cross over with iPhones so can be devoloped ralatvely quickly. Chromecast is even quicker I believe.

I am an Apple user. I find Airplay for video pretty average. I was watching F1 testing via VLC, excellent on my rMBP. Airplayed to my Airport Extreme via AC, 4 metres, its not great. Not smooth. Its "fine" but its not smooth. My AC blows away my fibre 100/20 speed. I bought a CC Ultra, ill try that

On the basis that some may feel "Spark can do better",  I believe its a case of what does the Japan producer decide.

Sorry, it’s great for getting personal videos off your phones, but it’s pretty crap as a media solution...chromecast is much bettter. Both pale to using a dedicated app on a proper media player.

I am sure that there was articles indicating the Japanese Broadcasters were in 4K. I'll have to look to find them.
