Love my new Chromecast. Works really well, even the casting from Chrome browser on a PC works great.

MikeAqua: Will chrome cast work if I plug it into my AV receiver (Onkyo NR-609) rather than my TV?

Actually looks like a compelling purchase.  I didn't realise Google Play Movies was available for NZ.

Yes it will I plug mine into my Onkyo receiver and power it from my TV. It works great.

How did you get this offer?
I'm buying a chromecast if this offer is available in NZ.

Hi
Chromecast and Orcon Genius modem.
What settings do I need to change in the modem menu for it to work with Chromcast?

Orcon wont help of course it's a 3 rd party device although they do say on their site it will work.
Thanks

Sometimes all I need is a justification to buy something even if I don't really need one.
What's wrong with me.

I bought a Chromecast about a year ago when on a US trip but apart from proving I could mirror my phone, I didn't use it.

Now I am seeing how good Netflix is on it but of course I need to get over the Google DNS baked in.

Using Gargoyle I setup routes from 8.8.8.8/255.255.255.255 to my IP address of my router (and 8.84.4.4) where I use Unotelly.

Now I can't access Netflix from my phone. It brings up the menu of shows but as I try to screen a show, it hangs for a while and then says Sorry Cannot reach Netflix service at the moment.

If I delete that routing all is fine.

Anybody know what could be going on?

It's not a big deal since on that TV where the Chromecast is installed I can watch Netflix on a PS3, Sony  BD player and an Asus NeoTV Google TV box so it's more of an academic exercise than anything else.

Could your phone be using the mobile network? Try turning mobile data off to make sure it's going through the router.

No I tried on my phone and on my tablet which has no 3G.  If the routing is set to send 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 to the IP address of my router I get the Netflix thumbnails showing progranmes I can watch. But I try to watch one I get Sorry we could reach the Netflix service. Please try again bla bla bla.

If I remove the routing, then Netflix works fine.

I must try on my other devices but isn't that the way to get over the problem with Chromecast?

No it's not that. When I have the routing in place, I can watch Netflix on my Chromecast fired off from my phone (Nexus 5).

But if I want to watch Netflix on my phone or tablet (N7) I can see the menus but as soon as I try to play a video I get the video is temporarily unavailable message. No problem watching Netflix though on my PS3 or Sony BD player with the routes in place.

If I remove the routes, then I can watch on my phone or tablet but can't watch on the Chromecast.

It's not really a big deal since I have enough devices I can watch with and anyway, watching on the Chromecast connected directly to HDMI on my TV means I lose DD 5.1 audio. I guess I could put the Chromecast into a HDMI input on the receiver and I would get DD+ 5.1?
