still waiting for a reply on my question from when I rang the csm ho in auckland.

seems like mixed results on the apple app too. will be interesting to see
the comversation post the live games on weekend.

I have already spent enough cash on this so I will wait for you guys to post yr
findings.

Tried the IoS app on both my iPhone & iPad, and all worked & looked good on the smaller screen real estate.

Briefly tried to send from the iPad to my 55"LED TV via Airplay/AppleTV and the quality looked to be less than my HDMI direct connected Laptop. It appeared as though the iPad took much longer to settle on the 3000kpbs stream rate, hence initial blockiness and judder.

Will try some more testing tonight.

Benoire: See this is the disappointing aspects. The qaulity of the stream seems to be dependant on the device used. At the moment I have a Samsung tablet and the quality is not great, it can't be sent to my TV. They should be producing device agnostic content at the same quality and not allow other devices to produce better quality streams, I should not be forced to purchase devices to make the stream better.

I do wonder if the flash use is degrading the quality somewhat, I've noticed that with Flash DRM streams that they are not as clean as the original TS files.

For me the Flash player certainly was giving some minor impairments although I doubt it would be noticed on a lot of other content. I personally think Flash for video has had it's day and when support stopped at 11.2 for Linux, and when I upgraded a Galaxy Note 10.1 to Jelly Bean and lost flash, that was a clear message.

Other methods will come through, especially with Silverlight dying pushing operators like Netflix to HTML5. The reading I have done on MHEG-IC looks quite positive and Steve Biddle did a good job raising awareness. Supposedly all Freeview TVs since 2011 should be capable but time will tell whether it works well on the older ones.

The issues now facing the users with Airplay are interesting and I can't help much there sorry. I don't have an Apple TV but use a Raspberry Pi with Openelec (XBMC). The streams do play on the Pi but there is processing needed which the Pi can't deliver so lots of pauses. I would hope that the Apple TV was only being limited by the network bandwidth in the house and there is a warning - it might stream fine to the iPad but once you hand that stream to the Apple TV I thought it then needs to draw it direct so that connection to your router from the TV location could be an issue. Unfortunately I expect there aren't the diagnostics as I get from the Pi from debug logs via SSH

I am hopeful the industry will have playback options that aren't further impairing the stream and it is only a subset that are having issues with PCs (great post of the three laptop example).

I feel your pain. I have avoiding the cash outlay but it is also the amount of time consumed that is the issue for everyone.

I have probably reached my limit so over to the others as well. I'll still be watching with great interest and might contribute if I have anything more to add.

Hope you all get to enjoy some great sport, however you get it delivered !

I found that the quality on the iPad was excellent although I would have liked the ability to choose the maximum bandwidth like I can on both the PC and Android.

I streamed it to the TV using AirPlay on my Raspberry Pi and the resolution was great.

It did not suffer with the motion judder issue that affects the PC/Flash however I did see some minor buffering which I will put down to the setup; either the Pi can't cope with the stream or that Wi-Fi to the iPad followed by Wi-Fi to the Pi was too much.

Procrastination eventually pays off.

I thought something similar but decided to draw a feed to the iPad and AirPlay it to the ATV to see if this might be the issue.
An HD video from YouTube showed no pixelation and not stuttering so it can't be just that.

The app shutting down the airplay when the iPhone went to sleep was the real biggie for me...

I think we'll find these sorts of user variability more and more common as streams go online rather than traditional distributions methods. Without one device to rule them all (aka Sky Box, freeview box etc) there is no way to be certain that all users are experiencing the same quality experience.

Very disappointed with PLP so far. I've tried watching on

1) Dell laptop HDMI > Samsung 51" Plasma. Picture is shocking - pixelated, blocky, motion blur
2) Samsung S3 - OK but very small. Kept stopping and started during live game
3) Samsung Tablet 10.1 - motion judder. Kept stopping and started during live game

Wirless is fast, internet connection is more than adequate (10Mbps)

Basically, not very good.

Anyone know if they're actually doing anything about it? Call centre were useless - like calling xtra when your internet is down. They even suggested re-installing Firefox/Chrome!!!

If the iPhone streams at 1600kpbs max - it will be around 1.3GB : 1600 * 60 * 110 / 8 / 1000.

I'd rule out trying to watch a stream on a mobile device not connected to an 'unlimited' wi-fi; Even the Uk with its 'unlimited' this and that doesn't allow you to watch on demand tv on 3G/4G as they break fair use policies.

Mobile data caps - that's where generous falls on it's face with a whole 150MB/month!!! I wonder where has the most free WiFi, there's an idea for another thread - I doubt streaming comes under the "fair usage".
