Benoire:

They haven't repsonsed to my questions about their recommendations to solve the issue.  I will have to prompt them...

That’s because they probably don’t have any. They seem at a loss to understand the actual impact this has on the quality of the viewing experience.

Yes they have now stating:

Spark Sport on Twitter:

Thanks for the feedback here Chris. I've just confirmed that we do look to bring this back in the foreseeable future. We're sorry for the inconvenience, our team are working behind the scenes to improve this where we can.

So they're trying to solve but do not have any recommendations for the moment.  Pretty terrible considering the EPL starts this weekend!

Very disappointed with Spark Sport at the moment. Just tried out watching some rugby highlights. Just awful at 30fps, the RWC is going to be near unwatchable like that. I'll be asking for a refund if they don't get it sorted. They risk becoming the most hated company in the country of they screw this up.

Also why is their Android TV app only available to Sony TV's and not the a NVIDIA Shield TV? Considering that was officially sold here and is still the best and most powerful Android TV unit around, it's quite a let down. Chromecast is just too flaky at times to be relied on.

Sideload the app on the shield, I've done this to both of mine and its fine.. won't autoupdate so you have to wait for others to grab the APK and release.

But I don't think you've helped us understand why SS cannot provide two streams, where the 50/60 fps stream would be manually selected by the customer, say as an "advanced" option?

SS has already proved they can supply the two types of stream, just not at the same time.

Much of the stuff I don't comment on, I simply don't have an answer.

That's not to say I won't attempt to get one.
Many of the things said here I do note down. There are also plenty of others that silently read here.

I'll confirm that yes I'll be seeking a guiding response to the question about multiple streams.

Spark sport does already offer multiple streams of the same content for different bandwidth requirements . I suspect multiple frame rates would add alot of complexity rather than just bring "an option".

That's cool, your presence & following up on our feedback is very much appreciated. We really do all have a common goal here - to make SS as great as possible!

Hi all, as i said i'd pass the feedback and seek a bit of detail that i can come back with.

Based on what i've been given, currently this is what i can advise.

In terms of Spark Sports priorities here, they have not swayed from the target of providing Kiwis with the best quality and range of content possible.

That does require that calls are made to Achieve that goal. At this stage, that does include reducing the number of options down to the smaller supported subset across all devices (in this case being only 25/30fps)

This reduces the operational Complexity, which heavily increases with per device profiles.

This is an item that's on the board, but would be at a later date.

I know that's not the response many of you wanted me to come back with, but your feelings about it are well known and are a key bit of feedback for the team to take on.

To sum it up, i'd like to leave a quote from Chris Keall's story on nzherald.

The frame rate debate comes just days before Spark Sport starts streaming the first games in the 2019/20 English Premier League season in what will be the platform's biggest test before the RWC.

Spark Sport is already offering preview content and pre-season friendlies on-demand. Lowered frame rate or not, the Herald has found the video quality on a par with HDTV, with the movement of the ball (a bugbear with previous EPL streamers) easy to follow.

hio - you the man of course, no offence intended to you

best quality and 25/30fps are incompatible statements

as it is right now, you can pirate better quality 50fps Formula 1 for free and rather easily - than Spark Sport can provide for money.

I was rooting for Spark to actually do this right and eventually take all the rugby rights from Sky. But based on this, I can't say I have a whole lot of confidence. There is simply no excuse to not have 60 fps suppor in 2019. I've been buying the NHL TV package for years, it has had 1080p60 support for a long time and it is fantastic.

You only get one chance to make a good first impression and you guys have screwed it up.

It's tragic but funny, that in 7 days Sky look like they will have a superior product.

I'll buy a sub this week to watch the EPL but will move to Kayo if I'm not happy with the quality.

I've asked Chris Keall if he would share the device as my experiences so far as completely different.  I run Sky through Kodi on my Shield TV and that is smooth on their sports channels while watching various sports but Spark Sport just doesn't work for me.  If he was watching it with clever motion enhances on a recent TV then that would not be a good representation... I wonder also how many will put the framerate issue asside because its not on sky and their willing to forgive Spark Sports as a result.

The ultimate insult would be finding a mate who runs a pub showing sky feed version and side-by-side cast to a smart device .

Sadly Chris Keall has not been shown to be objective on the subject.  Contrast his discussion with other reporters - its quite apparent.  And the feedback on GZ, where the matter was first raised, has shown that the video quality has diminished considerably.
