I am considering moving to a Chromecast Ultra as well, i have never been able to get Spark Sport running smoothly on my original gen Chromecast (before or after the change of frame rate). It regularly freezes up and just shows a mess of coloured pixels for 20-30 seconds and the resolution alternates constantly between pretty good through to totally unwatchable.

The change of frame rate made no difference whatsoever to performance so might be part of the rationale for moving back to 50/60. Has worked pretty consistently on my Samsung S10 throughout but even on that small screen the framerate drop was noticeable.

I cant be watching EPL games on my phone screen much longer so am keen to hear if the Chromecast Ultra works well (as well as it could with current FPS issues aside) i.e. no constant changes of resolution and freezing problems.

I have fibre and the router is about 1m away from the tv and chromecast (which has always worked perfectly with Netflix and other streaming services)

Same here and as per my recent post the CCu was very good. But I prefer the ATV4, as an STB with remote is "normal"

Gigabit fibre (with gig ethernet) using Chromecast ultra. Had the same resolution issue (1080p to what must have been 144p for 10 or so seconds every couple of minutes) during live EPL games (3 games in a row). Also did the same through PC web browser (chrome) HDMI direct to TV.

3rd game in I gave up and watched replay in the morning which was flawless. Either a live stream issue or maybe capacity (issue reduced in the later game, maybe as less were watching). Colleagues at work had same issue. When I reported to SS in email they replied in an email acknowledging the issue.

Not saying don't change to an Ultra for other benefits but think the res / freezing issue you had was probably unrelated to your Chromecast.

Grabed an chromecast ultra during the week so will pop in to replace the original chromecast for family tomorrow I think!

They work fine, I got one solely to test, its good. I cant pick between that and Airplay. On F1 which was 10/10, it was , well 10/10

Yeah but they can't do 1080p@60fps so out it goes

I read it as the original can. Agree ultra can instead hence the upgarde to the ultra from the oringale which can only do 1080@30 (hence spark dropping to 1080@30)

The head of SS just said in radio that they will be reverting to 60fps before the World Cup (but not this weekend).

Apparently there is no such thing as 1080p, its 1080i. And the 50/60fps is coming back soon

I get better picture on the prem from a $8 per year streaming service from India. Bit disappointing.

Nope, its only on thier supported devices which are the freeview units and Sony I believe... official Android TV units will work with sideloaded as noted but will not get it from the play store; annoying as I want it officially on my shield so updates are easier than asking here for the latest APK.

It was interesting watching the TV1 morning news highlights of the weekend's EPL matches.

The movement quality was terrible. I pity those of you trying to sit through a whole game of that!

Hoping Spark are true to their word and the higher frame rate kicks in next week
