My refurbished Chromecast Ultra arrived today.   Rock solid compared with my original  CC that I bought  when they first came out.  Clear picture and no intermittent dropping back to SD.  I only tested it on the Jap Vs SA replay.  Will be interesting to see what happens  on opening day.  Not to bad for $60

Good to know, may be I'll order a couple then!

Funny you should say that.  Yes.  I did a factory default to get rid of it.

So in my testing to make sure 60fps works. As of yesterday, if I cast the SA v JPN game to the Bravia or shield, it works. But if I open it via the native app, the feed doesn't move 'up' from 30fps...

This is mildly infuriating.

So after few emails with Spark Sport support. Turns out my Sony TV is not on the devices that support 60FPS however casting to it is because it's treated like a chromecast then....?

As of 13/9/19 the supported 60FPS list is (taken from SS):

  • Web Browsers
  • Chromecast 3 and Ultra
  • Apple TV HD and 4K
  • SmartVU Freeview streaming device
  • 2017+ Samsung Smart TV
  • 2017+ Panasonic Smart TV
  • Chromecast 1 and 2

Hopefully this will help others.  PS, when I tried before, the Sheild did swith to 60FPS so god knows what's happening.

/edit - sort out horrible copy paste table formatting

Disagree. It can run the app which means remote control is an option!

tanivula: What's the best/easiest way to confirm what resolution and fps that you're being served? Looking at router bandwidth use?

Testing via the shield and the Bravia, and on either device Spark Sport has never looked as smooth as a YouTube 60fps video for me.

Guess, I want to go through the motions and figure out if there's something I'm doing wrong, or my expectations are too high!

Opening the stream VLC might work....

Well, on that basis the Sony TV should play the native app stream at 60FPS as all the chromecasts are supported to play at 60FPS.  And the Sony TV does indeed play the stream at 60FPS when casted to, but doesn't change from 30FPS when you use the app on the tv itself.

I'm not surprised the Shield is running it t 60FPS, I'm surprised the Bravia is not via the app, but is when you cast to it.

Not sure if this has been brought up here, but there seems to be some controversy on reddit regarding the legality of Spark Sport forcing people sign up for marketing material:
