JimmyH: However, as I suspect is the case for many GZers, I am also the default technical support guy for the family. I have elderly relatives who still can't cope with switching TV inputs from the DVD player to the satellite box and back again. I have to (literally) write down instructions including pictures of which buttons to press etc in a notebook for them. Then I still have to provide phone support when they forget how, get confused, or press a button on the TV remote that does something random and they can't get the news back, or get a rain fade message or whatever.
I *dread* getting into a position where for them to see what they want I will have to explain all this to them, cable and connect multiple decoders to their telly, buy them a computer or other device for streaming, and set up broadband and streaming etc as well. It would quickly become a nightmare for them and for me. We tend to forget that what is easy and straightforward for us isn't for some folks. I have only just finishing ensuring that one of them will even have a working telly after the digital switch over, and they are still confused about why they had to change things around.
Luckily, none of them are interested in the EPL. Had this been rugby or tennis I would already be having to figure out solutions for two other households. Actually, it's more likely I would be hiding under my bed with the lights out and not answering the phone............
DS9: I makes me laugh, we have moved from a monopoly supplier of multiple sport content to a single sport content monopoly and no-one sees the problem with this. I love the Saints but I will not be paying for this as I am now used to watching on a 55" TV and going back to a 19" monitor seems a backward step.
P.S. i have read a lot of posts but maybe not all.

While homes with ultra-fast broadband would have no issues watching matches, an industry source questioned whether those with ADSL connections would be able to receive high-definition (HD) content. HD required a download speed of five megabytes a second, while the ADSL download speed was about 4.5mb/s.

mentalinc: And this mornings article on it:

So what is this 4.5mb/s
Surely most of the country can get 10mb/s by now..... (Master filter must be stated of course)/
Would be a perfect chance to mention VDSL as well surely....
Benoire:ashnizzle: how so? $12.50 a month on a normal season pass for all you can watch football and on demand?
its not going to be a issue for me in terms of broadband ufb and have a decent data cap
You're right its not if your simply after football, but for those that like watching the other sports it all starts to add up badly.
I really do wonder about their market though... Without a dedicated box, or over the air ability I can't imagine they'll catch the numbers they need to make it viable?

The true fanatics will probably purchase it. The average fan will weigh it up and decide on price taking into account that the total cost maybe way more than just the $150.
In deciding wether to take it up things that will affect people's decisions is that as it is a online package then what connection issues do I have, will I get the picture quality I want, If the picture quality is not that good then why not just get it from elsewhere. If I am a Chelsea fan and don't mind a delay then I can just watch chelsea TV on Sommet Sports. Or if a fan of another team I can wait to watch it on their TV site.
But the biggest problem the new company will have is churn, those that brought it this year but due to many reasons such as picture quality, not actually using it as much as they thought, extra expense involved etc decide not to renew. I think this is what will kill them in the end or make them do a deal with SKY to be a full terrestrial onseller much like is done in the US or with Setanta sports on FOXTEL in Australia.
