I guess, it's much of a muchness between 50 and 60fps (in terms of what the human eye can see).

I trust what Kodi tells me, all the normal content (1014 / previous RWC games that are currently on SS come up as 29.970).  The only high fps video I have access to is the SA v JPN game, which registers as 50fps.

I'm also assuming (based on my experience) most modern hardware auto frame switch (between 24, 30, 50 and 60hz) so you wouldn't really notice the difference.  If you get stuck with your display on 60hz and play 50fps, you notice stutters.

Based on this, I'll leave my CC's on 50hz then. Agreed not worried over 50 vs 60 but sticking to native may provide the best viewing experience at the time.

No they dont, and for some reason apple TV wants to do eveyrhing at 50Hz even tho almost everything on youtube is 60, so it looks horrible. Was deep in the settings to put it back on 60. Only the 4k one seems to have the match content option, the lesser ones just make everything come out at whatever its set to. And its horrible to watch when its wrong. Mind you some people think that gaming at 30 is fine so probably dont notice it.

Anyone watching the F1?  Spark Sport app on android TV has just dropped quality (about 5 minutes left on the FP1 track time) and won't get back up to top res/framerate... Was running fine at 7mbps 1080p 60fps but now much lower and nothing has changed; 37mbps vdsl with only my partner streaming on netflix at 1080p so its normally fine, but not right now...

edit:  Back at 1080p now, not sure why it dropped... hopefully not a sign of things to come!

edit2: no, gone again lower res but framerate is still above 30.  mucho annoying...

Spark sport rugby pass streaming like a dream, excellent quality - Auckland, Spark Unplan fibre 100/20, old Sprint Tab A to Chromecast, Orbi wifi -- with daughter streaming Netflix on wifi at the same time.  Well done, spark!

My ATV4 and ATV4K both match content and playout at 60. If they aren't ever set to 50 they won't playout at 50 anyway. Why would anyone set an ATV to 50??

was up and down for me towards the end, partners netflix is fine however in the other room.  What is the best way to trouble shoot a spark sport issue given that the stream is crossing multiple networks?

The ATV seems to default to 50hz for our region, I bought one yesterday and noticed this

If you don't use 50hz then TVNZ ondemand and other NZ apps are jerky, even with match frame rate on. Change it back to 50hz and TVNZ ondemand etc work fine..

Even though Spark Sport is playing at 1080p 60hz it doesn't feel buttery smooth compared to casting to the Nvidia Shield

Perhaps the F1 feeds are 60fps, and the RWC ones are 50fps? My shield is set to 4k 60 output to the TV, but Kodi auto switches to match the source, which plays at 50fps.

If it is an ATV4 ( not 4k) You probably have your resolution set to 1080p 50hz. Under video and audio settings go to match content and turn on frame rate. Spark sport content will swap to 60hz when you play video and swap back when you are in the app menus. I’m pretty sure TVNZ On demand doesn’t content match so will stay at 50hz because that is the default resolution you have set.

Well, how did you find the quality of the video of the opening ceremony and the first game, Japan vs Russia? I thought it was very good, I watched on a big screen via Apple TV.

It's good to see that there is now a highlights video to watch of the game and there is also a full recording of the opening ceremony and the opening game. No complaints from me, so what did you think?

zero issues watching jpn vs rus. Looked great.

Using the app on my 2017 Panasonic tv, all Ethernet connection, spark fibre.

ps.

I tried watching it with the kodi sparksport addon for my vero 4k but it buffers like crazy and is pretty much unwatchable.

It's a 4k, and it defaulted to 1080p 50hz out of the box. First thing I did was change it to 60hz and put match content frame rate on.

However when I did that tvnz on demand became unwatchable as there was a lot of judder/jerkiness until I changed it back to 1080p 50hz. @rugrat seems to confirm similar here https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=81&topicid=240897&page_no=1#2099595

It could just be my TV that's the problem as its an old Samsung LED TV, not even 4k but the AVR is a Sony STR-DN1080, but I found RWC playback on the Shield via Chromecast to be more fluid than the ATV4k
