xpd: Hmm... not good look to have AU pricing on the .co.nz - be interesting to see what happens tomorrow.

they don't have a .co.nz  yet......  just an ezyflix.com.au   which resolves to www.ezyflix.tv

NonprayingMantis:
jevvv: I found out more about it here than through their own channels - something wrong with this picture

Just tried going on livechat on their website to ask about content, but it crashed :(

........

so, pretty non-committal and vague on content.  refuses to answer about breaking bad.

Thanks for the efforts Mantis.

I'm at the stage if I can't find out enough initial info then I won't bother with the chat option.

Sites can at least have the courtesy to give potential users some idea of whats up, that way we are self filtering: not all asking the same questions that chat staff get sick of answering.

Better on both sides when they think of that.

<- don't ask me where I am - I haven't a clue: its a tech thing ;)
Housewife computerer: not particularly great at either.
And don't take me too seriously.

to be fair,  we are all looking at the Australian site.  they haven't actually launched NZ site yet, so you can't ask too much of them.
However, they should at least have a message on there saying 'coming soon' or something.  at the moment it is quite misleading as it appears the Oz site is the NZ site, when actually it won't be

NonprayingMantis: when you look at their TV section, it is sorted by australian channel, which means they have likely done deals with 7,9,10,sbs etc to get the Tv content.

Sort of an expensive Aussie version of Hulu+

Free VPN with every signup for NZ customers?!

I wonder if they are aware certain NZ providers have exclusive streaming rights for some shows (ie I imagine Sky has rights for BB as they show it on SOHO).

I'm quite sure they will be aware of what they can and cannot stream. We will find out tomorrow what their actual content lineup will be. Rest assured it won't be as good as the Australian lineup.

I wonder if it will be available on Apple TV. I haven't seen any mention of it, so I'm guessing not.

I see this ezyflix comes with Ultraviolet.

I already have an Ultraviolet account (via Vudu) in the US which features disk to digital. This allows you to convert your DVD's at home, and store them in the cloud. (format shifting)

As far as I know format shifting is still illegal in NZ. Unless somethings changed?
I wonder if we will have the same functionality here in NZ?

You are authorised by the rights owner to have a digital copy when claiming the UV code. It is different than converting it yourself.

doubtful.  apple's requirements for huge commission on 'in app purchases' make any sort of TVOD service (other than iTunes) totally uneconomic or totally impractical on any apple device.

The only way around it is to have the purchase take place outside the app, which is a pain in thebutt (i.e. for apple tV, you will need to purchase the movie via your browser, then you can watch it on the apple TV.)

That's why kindle on the ipad doesn't let you purchase books direct from the app.

I doubt you will get this on ATV as it seems to only be AU and NZ. Apple don't seem to interested in limited applications like this for ATV.

Personally I think that at the price point they have for shows it wont do that well and I cant see how they will be able to have decent content with the rights all sown up in NZ by Sky.

I personally think that a mixed model of Netflix for older stuff and ad supported like Hulu for new stuff with a single subscription fee is the holy grail in this area. Paying per show just gets to expensive - 5-6 shows a week at $20 per month per show and you may as well pay for Sky - not to mention the data usage.

Plus the reality is that they need to compete with torrenting so if its not super easy to access, i.e AppleTV, Roku, PS3 etc and at a price point that people don't notice it wont get people off of "free" I think Spotify etc have proved this with more and more people happy to just stream music and not own it.
