My understanding is that what NF calls Super HD is actually 1080p - not something greater that might be implied by that term, and their 'HD' is 720p.

I believe that SuperHD is 1080p at higher bit rate then standard 1080p.

I use an AppleTV hard wired via Astrill VPN and get SuperHD every time without issue.

How can you tell? I've tried fiddling with the Apple TV but can't find any way to find out the streaming quality.
Or are you just judging it by eye?

Thanks. I was wondering if there was any way of seeing the bit rate &/or resolution on the fly while watching an actual movie.

You can in Windows 8 with IE apparently but I was not able to get that metadata when I tried it.

im on W7 for my main PC and it looks like 3000kbps is maximum and i tried to find the W8 app for my laptop and everytime i go to the store to download it i cant find it , even though it's meant to be there. If anyone has downloaded the App, could they tell me how. Thanks.

The page I linked says "Netflix "Super HD" is at the same 1080p maximum resolution, but delivers a clearer picture by using more bandwidth (think high quality jpeg vs low quality jpeg that are the same resolution, but the one with better quality is a larger file)."

I now see that you were probably asking "How can NPM tell he's getting SuperHD every time".

I didn't have to use geo blocking or similar.

However when I connected to Netflix to stream I'm hidden by VPN.

Anyone know how to get full 1080hd on mac? On PS3/4 it goes to full hd really quick and seems to start most videos around 720p.

you can't. Browser based streaming on Netflix only goes up to 720p.
the win8 app has 1080p (super HD) but not via the browser.

It's likely something to do with DRM and studios being a bunch of "see you next tuesday's"

IOW it is what I said, which is that there is no '1080p' on Netflix that isn't 'Super HD'

It doesn't go 720p HD->1080p HD->1080p Super HD

It goes 720p HD -> 1080p Super HD -> 1080p Super HD (with a different bitrate)
