$98 and a bit in fact. Looks more like a pre-order though. No stock at any physical store and Head office(web) is listed as having stock but with an ETA of 02/11/15.

Have it. Tried on the shed stereo and all the same issues of disconnecting from the play music app that the old chromecast had. It's got optical in the 3.5nm jack so I'm waiting on an adapter for that to arrive from China. I threw out my old one when I threw out the mini disc recorder thinking I would never need optical again.

Well I just pulled the trigger on one. $35(US) from Google and no tax or shipping cost to Youshop. I did a quick estimate and it looks like the Youshop will be $17.5 so in total about US$35 (NZ$53)+$17.5 so about $68.5. The goal is to play music on my table to my HiFi system and I have run out of HDMI ports on the AVR so the regular Chromecast (which is the same price) won't work it's analogue in for the audio.

Well I got mine the other day. Fabulous device. I originally had a Xoom tablet connected via RCA jacks to my HT system to listen to audio from Google Play. But because the Xoom is not earthed I was getting this hum on the audio signal. Plus I was limited to navigating my music with the Xoom near the AVR.

Replaced that with the Chromecast (no hum), seamlessly connected the Xoom to it and hey presto, high quality music streaming out of my HT system from Google Play. And what's even better is I can now position the Xoom where I sit and not have to get up to change music selections :-) Since my amp has Toslink inputs, and I am sure I have a cable around somewhere, might give that a try also instead of analogue RCA.

It seems that google play music does most of the queuting from the device that is casting from, unlike youtube which seems to be all the queue on the chromecast and the app on phones just interacting with it to make changes once started.

If the phone I cast a station from goes off wifi, and then comes back, it will stop after the track its playing most of the time. So forget casting music and then sticking the phone in your pocket and going about normal household activites that take you in and out of wifi range IME.

Can you guys confirm whether Chromecasts work the same way functionally when plugged into an HDMI port on an A/V receiver, rather than directly into the TV? I have a few spare channels on my Onkyo, so plugging it in this way seems a much more intuitive way of doing it.

The Chromecast Audio has no HDMI port. A regular Chromecast if plugged into an AVR should support audio on apps that support casting audio. I would think minimally Google Play Music and Spotify since they are suported by the Chromecast Audio device and the HDMI is just a connection to the AVR, not to the source of the music.

Though I haven't tried that since my Chromecast is connected to my TV I can't see why that would not work. On the HDMI side the Chromecast just looks like any device producing a signal to be processed and displayed on the TV viz a BD player, Roku etc. So the AVR should just receive the signal and route it through the HDMI output on the AVR to your TV.

Concur. Mine's plugged into my Yammy A/V receiver. All good.
