Nice one Google. Now, all you have to do is remove those ridiculous in-my-face radio stations whenever I open Google Play Music, and my life would be perfect.

A wee bit of a grey area.

They charge more for iOS...in the fine print it says the increased subscription price if if you sign up from the youtube iOS app.

This is probably because of apple taking a hefty cut, for any purchases through their 'store'

But I imagine that I can sign up on an android device for the true discounted price, and then sign in and use the account on an iOS device...is that correct does anyone know?

Looks like signing up online would work. Just don't subscribe via your iDevice according to something I read last night.

I just looked here at their blog http://google-newzealand.blogspot.co.nz/2016/05/new-zealand-meet-youtube-red-and.html

and noticed this statement:

As a special introductory offer, if you sign up before June 6 you get all of these new features, a premium music service, and access to YouTube Red Originals for $9.99* a month. After June 6, the standard price will be $12.99* a month. By signing up to YouTube Red you’ll also be supporting your favourite YouTube creators as the majority of the membership fee goes to them, just like with YouTube advertising revenue.

As a special bonus, YouTube Red comes with premium access to Google Play Music, so subscribe to one and automatically get access to the other for free. If you're already a Play Music subscriber, don't worry, you'll also get this new low price, and you don't need to sign up again to benefit from YouTube Red.

I wonder if that means the next time my subscription for Google Music renews it will be at $9.99?

Wondering the same thing. Haven't been able to find anything else yet to confirm this.

Because I signed up when All Access first launched in NZ, I'm paying $10.99 a month. Hopefully I'll still get the same offer. *eagerly awaiting the same email*

Yup, me too!

EDIT: $10 a month is pretty good value I reckon for Google Music alone if you're a music streamer.

Coincidently my subscription is due tomorrow, I guess I'll see what I'm charged.

Unfortunately my subscription isn't due until after June 6th. Currently looking at my subscription on Google's payment page still lists the recurring payment as $10.99 a month.

Just to be on the safe side I've set myself a reminder for June 4th to cancel and renew if I haven't heard anything prior.

Signed up tonight with the 60 day trial using direct carrier billing. Great way to use my extra credit. smile

For anyone else who wants to do the same:

  • YouTube Red (app or website) doesn't have carrier billing as an option
  • Play Music defaults to a 30 day trial, Red to a 31 days
  • The 60 day trial banner on the Play Music store did not work for me
  • Open this link in the Play Music app for success

That link will work in a browser, too, but that's not as fun.

Mine renewed on the 18th, at the usual price.

Yup, I'm guessing mine will tick over at $10.99 tomorrow. Then I'll try and ask them why they haven't switched me to $9.99 per the press release.

I've been with Google music for some time. The offer I got was a free trial of Red, for one month. Then it will charge.

But my monthly music bill drops to the $10 per month. Not sure I'll bother paying for Red though once the trial is up.
