People are going on about there's no way they would drop Sky for this and others are saying they will.
ronw: Instead of complaining why not go to the Australian website and see what its available the.It will give you an idea what we can expect to see here when it gets going.

Im just adding my thoughts into the discussion.
I have looked at the AU website and that looks like a viable service, why isnt most of the content here already?
Quickflix have been asked multiple times on Facebook if any more content is coming and they've given very vague replies. I dont have high hopes myself.

I would imagine because the firm will have to negotiate contracts with all the film companies in New Zealand. Just because they have rights in Australia does not mean they have rights here.
It will take time and they may never get rights to stuff that Sky already has deals for. New stuff might be more easy to get rights. I do not imagine they will ever get rights to Fox output because Murdoch owns both Fox and 49% of SKYTV. That si the penalty for letting Sky get such a hold in NZ. Hopefully in future a government might have the guts to change the rules around Sky
ArcticSilver: Cant say i've enjoyed my experience so far:
I have had site issues, though these have fixed themselves (this I can forgive).
The lack of content is a large problem for me, even the TV series's that are listed dont have all the seaons.
When signing up you are billed an "administration fee". Why is there one for what I asume is an automated process? Also this is NOT clearly outlined and in my mind is borderline false advertising. I complained about this and suggested that they amend their advertising to make it clear as to what you are actually charged (not just $9.99!). Note: They did refund me the extra $8.50 charge when I complained.
Pay per view has quite a few popular, dated movies that I actuly want to watch, that leaves me wondering what the point of the subscription is.
Finally the worst of all, cancelling. I went to cancel online to find I could not! You have to call their 0800 number and wait on hold to reach one of their CSRs just to cancel your account. What makes matters worse is if you cancel your subscription right away you lose all your remaining time! In my case I only signed up a few days ago, but was told if I cancel now I lose the rest of my month.
So overall I havent had all that plesent of an experience. I can forgive some issues and chalk it up to their launch, but I seem to have been hit left right and center. It's a real pitty as I want to support a service like this, but they have made it so hard.
I'm currently in no rush to go back.
lokhor:
Yep number 1 reason they are going to fail is lack of content
Vorbis:
Wow, tough crowd.
at least you gave it a good shot after signing up eh, just to see if things improved...and left some constructive criticism etc. Right?

Well actully I did leave some constructive criticism over the phone. I fully believe in doing this as otherwise, how will they know?
As for giving it a good shot, I did use it a bit, well as much as I could really. Its hard to give it a "good shot" when the content is so lacking.
Also I wasnt trying to imply they wouldnt imrprove etc, I deliberately said ""so far" and put all my points in context. I just wanted to online my issues with the service to add to the discussion.
Hopefully they find this thread (maybe we should link them to it?).
Also im not gone yet, I was fully aware I have the rest of the month to go, I just like to cancel subscriptions that I am unlikely to continue before it reaches the end of the period in case it passes my mind. This however wasnt a option.
Lastly, Im left with the impression so much of this could have been avoided had they tested their site and systems before launch, or have a beta. There were so many, small silly issues.

semigeek: I'm going to stick my 2 cents in here about Quickflix and New Zealanders attitude towards it.
For a start it seems that kiwi's are turning into the proverbial poms if you will excuse my use of that word.
It seems to be whinge whinge whinge. Now for some time, New Zealanders have wanted a service like Netflix, so we finally get one. And as of yet, I haven't signed up, but in the future I plan to. But all I am seeing is - "there isn't enough content" "streaming is blocky" etc etc.
How many things though start out being perfect? Was the XT network perfect on startup? Is your ISP perfect?
Quickflix didn't have to bring their service here, but they did. They now provide another option for watching TV shows and Movies albeit a bit limited at this present point in time. Yes they could provide more, and from what I have read on Facebook they will be. Is there teething problems? From what I have read, I would say definitely. But all these things can be fixed.
Do we want Netflix to pack their bags and disappear for good? No. How about instead of moaning about the service which isn't really that old yet, we all be patient and wait for them to fix their problems and grow into a service that in the future New Zealanders wont be able to do without?
