JPNZ:

Excellent, been wanting to watch that. Now for some rainy weekend weather plz haha

You get a around a month to start first watch. It’s only got to be rented in the week of the special to get it at 99 cents.

Good chance of rainy weekend over 4 weeks. After first watch available to watch as many times as like over 48 hours.

Good flexibility with renting with Apple.

The STAR TREK 10-Movie Collection has been available for $49.99 for a while now ($5 each). Considering that the first four movies in the series have recently upgraded to Dolby Vision, and the likelihood that the other six titles will also be upgraded, it may be a good time to buy the set if you are a fan.

I decided to browse the three NZ physical media online outlets that I previously bought DVD, Blu-ray and 4K UHD discs from. These being JB Hi-Fi, Mighty Ape and The Warehouse.

Well, I know that streaming has hit physical media sales quite hard, but The Warehouse only have two 4K UHD movies available online, and Mighty Ape only have eight (possibly COVID-19 affected). JB Hi-Fi still have a great selection of 369 4K UHD for sale. I also noted that prices for the 4K discs are still ridiculously high. IMO they need to bring prices down to compete with streaming, or the physical media market will be dead much sooner than I expected.

Sony Pictures are releasing their Colombia Classics Collection Vol. 2 on 4K disc on October 12th in the US. The 6-Movie Collection consists of: Anatomy of a Murder (1959), Oliver! (1968), Taxi Driver (1976), Stripes (1981), Sense and Sensibility (1995) and The Social Network (2011). Most people will not need all six titles, but Sony will not release individual titles until 2022 (don't quote me on that).

The iTunes NZ store has already upgraded two of the titles to Dolby Vision. The Social Network which I reported in an earlier post, and Anatomy of a Murder. Personally I am only interested in Taxi Driver and Oliver! so hoping that they, and the other two get upgraded soon.

The Collection is retailing at $US119.99 ($NZ170.00). No doubt the price reflects the added inclusion of the films on Blu-ray disc, and the special packaging, but for someone like myself, who only wants a couple of the movies in 4K, the upgraded iTunes versions at a much reduced price, will suffice.

Dolby Vision upgrades for UNBREAKABLE (2000) and A CLOCKWORK ORANGE (1971) now in the iTunes store.

Unbreakable was a pleasant surprise, as I received a free upgrade.

A Clockwork Orange has now got two listings. One in HD and one in DV. This has happened many times in the US iTunes store, but rarely in the NZ store. It means that owners of the film will not get a free upgrade to 4K, and will have to purchase again if wanting the upgrade ๐Ÿคจ. Hopefully this will change.

A little rant re?: local pricing lol. JB Hifi is probably the better of them all due to their selection and probably pricing...when they have a rare sale. Thats where my problem with JB Hifi NZ begins. They dont have many sales and their pricing is what puts me off buying locally from them. It works out cheaper getting 4K Discs from the very common sales JB Hifi aus has all the time. I havent purchased a movie from JB Hifi NZ since The Lord of the Rings/Hobbit Trilogy at the beginning of the year. Since then i have been buying mostly from JB Hifi Aus or Amazon Aus. I would love to know why there is sometimes such a huge price difference when buying locally eg The Conjuring 3 $54 locally or $36.98 in Aus? Take 20% off the aus price when they have there common 20% or more off sales and you get it for around $29. Is it something to do with the local Film distributors and they set pricing locally...JB Adds their bit on top? I realise we have differing GST costs plus shipping etc but an almost 46% price difference in this case is pretty high. Rant over from a 4K Disc fan(and the Odd Itunes film as well).

Plus 1 for Amazon Ozzie for the selection and more often than not having a sale.

I still buy mine from also from JB and Mighty Ape here in NZ if their price matching is cheaper vs the conversion and postage.

Still buy the odd movie from the iTunes Store but still can’t compete with the 1:1 video and sound coming off 4K Ultra disc.

Or dare I whisper it a…….. mkv version ripped into Plex.

If family/friends ask for a movie to be played here and I have the 4K disc, then that would be the copy I choose to play first.

Movies on my wish list usually show any price reductions on Wednesday. I checked today, and there were multiple reductions, so I grabbed five of them. The full list of price reductions not on my wish list will show on Friday, so it could be an expensive week ๐Ÿ™‚

I added: The Hitman's Bodyguard (2017) DV/DA - $7.99, The Hunt (2020) HDR10/DD+ 5.1 - $4.99, Monster Hunter (2021) DV/DA - $9.99, Nobody (2021) DV/DA - $9.99, A Quiet Place II (2021) DV/DA - $9.99.

My iTunes library now totals 341 Movies. Some US collector's have 3000 - 4000 titles, so I have a wee way to go yet ๐Ÿ˜„

I did a price comparison with JB Hi-Fi NZ. The Hitman's Bodyguard (24.98) The Hunt (unavailable in 4K), Monster Hunter ($39), Nobody ($45), A Quiet Place II ($45). A JB sale would chop 20% off.

So I got all five for less than I would have had to pay for A Quiet Place II.

I was quite excited to see Judas and the Black Messiah was only $9.99 It has been $24.99 for quite some time and great to see the price drop. A really good film that deserves a larger audience. It is in 4K With Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos as well. In physical we can only get it on DVD here, so definitely worth a buy.

I wonder why NZ still cannot buy TV series through this service? Australia can apparently.
