I wonder why NZ still cannot buy TV series through this service? Australia can apparently.

If what you say is true, then it seems odd that Oz users can buy TV Series and we can't.

Personally I wouldn't buy TV Series (Game of Thrones maybe), but it would be nice to have the option for sure.

I'm reasonably confident Australian iTunes users have had the ability to buy TV shows for years, a quick search brings up articles from 2013-14 talking about buying GOT and other shows.

Some good news for Vampire and Lycan fans, not forgetting Kate Beckinsale fans. Sony are releasing on 4K Physical Media, the Underworld 5-Movie Collection in the US on October 26th.

The US iTunes store has already upgraded all five movies to Dolby Vision. At the time that I write this post, the NZ iTunes Store, have upgraded three titles .

Underworld and Underworld: Blood Wars are the two films yet to upgrade. I expect all five to be upgraded in the near future.

EDIT: The Underworld Unrated Edition has upgraded to DV. The rated version is still HD.

A wet and windy day here in Christchurch. On days like this I sometimes gather useless information off the web. Just to pass the time.

My latest time waster is comparing the prices of the first 50 titles on JB Hi-Fi NZ, that I also own on iTunes in 4K/DV. I keep a record of my spend on iTunes, so it was easy to compare.

Packaging etc. hasn't been taken into account. Nor the fact that some of the 4K discs have Atmos/DTS:X, which are not available on the streaming versions. I am only interested in the movie, and I don't need fancy packaging etc.

I browsed the first five pages on JB's website, and came across 50 titles that I bought off of iTunes. The difference in price was a staggering $1268. An average of $25.36 less for each title.

I know that many people will still collect physical media no matter what the cost, but for those of us who don't have the means to spend so much on our "hobby" iTunes is a great substitute.

I have a rule when buying iTunes movies. I only buy when titles that I want are $4.99, $7.99 or $9.99. Keeping my purchases below $10, means that I can still afford to have a good library.

I am not employed or connected to Apple in any way 😁

I keep my Purchases below $9.99 as well with the majority of them at $4.99. I havent purchased a 4K disc in around 4 months due to Covid, hardly any sales at JB NZ. Picked up Justice Leagues Snyder Cut via Itunes for $9.99 and The Goonies for $7.99. Great Value and both 4K/Dolby Vision and they look great too. Still hanging out for the Star Trek set and Indiana Jones set on Disc. These are Disc must owns for me. Justice League is still on that list but i crumbled at the $9.99 price for the stream lol. Love your posts by the way.

I have built a wish list on iTunes, which I visit each week to see if there are any price cuts. I keep adding to the list as new titles are released. Some titles I won't purchase until they are down to $4.99, others that are recently released films, I will pay $9.99 for.

I agree that some physical releases are a must own to some collectors, but in the case of the Indiana Jones set, I just couldn't bring myself to pay $139.95, when I could buy from iTunes for $19.99. All four have DV/DA on board. Even if you wait for one of JB's 20% off sales, it would still cost around $112. Hopefully there will be a price reduction in the near future.

I just had to own the John Wick Trilogy on physical, which I imported from the US for around $NZ79. The third film in the trilogy is Dolby Vision on iTunes NZ, the other two are HD, and none of them have Atmos. This really rubs me the wrong way, especially when all three are available in the US store with DV/DA. They apparently have a different distributor in NZ, as have several other titles which haven't had the 4K upgrades.

Not much in the bargain bin this week, but I did pick up SCARFACE and CARLITO'S WAY, both movies starring the great Al Pacino. Both 4K HDR and $4.99.

As an avid Kate Beckinsale fan, I took the opportunity to purchase UNDERWORLD: EVOLUTION (2006), and UNDERWORLD: AWAKENING (2012) @$7.99 each. Both are Dolby Vision.

UNDERWORLD (Uncut) (2003) and UNDERWORLD: BLOOD WARS (2016) will be purchased at a later date, when they have a price drop, and BLOOD WARS is upgraded to DV.

These two take my iTunes library to 350 titles 😎

Thank you Movieman for letting us know about the Underworld special. I am also a Underworld fan (and Kate Beckinsale of course :) ). Have now purchased the same and waiting on the unrated version price to drop.

THE ADDAMS FAMILY (1991) has been upgraded to Dolby Vision, but is a new listing from Paramount, and only available for Rental ATM. The old listing was from MGM. So, if you own the MGM listing, then you are unlikely to get a free upgrade.

I don't know if Paramount have taken over MGM's international distribution rights. Earlier this year I read that MGM had been sold to Amazon for $8.5 Billion, so I'm not sure how Paramount figure in the deal.

The Paramount listing is on the left of the two movie posters.
