Again I'd like to point out it hasn't launched here yet.

Not only that if the pricing for tv shows is around what's on the Austrailian website then it still makes it cheaper than buying the DVD or Bluray versions by a decent amount since most TV shows when they first come out are in the $40 + market range.

As for it not showing on ATV your comments are pretty damning it's not actually their fault if they're not able to put it on there it's Apple who makes that decision to limit the content and what makes it on to their devices and how.

I say let them launch today and then make your judgements. Commenting on something and saying they're not that good before launch is harsh.

I for one am very happy to see anothre service come along and try to deliver content we want in a format and way we want at a time we want it. Yes there's still things like pricing and stream quality to be looked at but for now I say welcome to New Zealand Ezyflix good luck I hope you can deliver what is long overdue and needed in the NZ marketplace as I for one am sick and tired of Sky gouging and controlling a uncompetitive market.

Lol collectors do. I like digital and although still buy the occasional Bluray and have a couple of series I want to add to my collection of Bluray (The Pacific and Band of Brothers) I'm leaning more towards getting digital content and if buying disks I would lean towards gifting the disk and keeping the Ultrtaviolet copy. I'd like to see Disk to Digital become available here in NZ so I could upgrade my collection of DVD's, Blurays so they were all online.

i dont like the fact that you have to pay more for the HD content, is that normal?, and it's not cheap $44 for Castle season 5. il stick to my $10 i pay to Netflix for as much as i can watch.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Yes..

Had a look at the above site and not overly impressed with the content. Mostly old movies that have been on FTA TV here and the TV program section doesn't have anything there that i would watch.

As this site has an Android app and my Chromcast still hasn't been shipped, anyone know if Chromcast will work on this site??

looks like the site is actually showing the NZ version now as when I go to the TV section it is massively reduced from what I could see yesterday. (surprise surprise!)

As at the time of this post, there are 19 seasons of TV shows available, whereas yesterday (on the ozzie version) there were easily 30-40

To their credit, Breaking bad is in there though (taking up 6 out of the 19 seasons). Castle takes up another 5, and Vampire diaries 3. So unless you like vampires, meth, or castle, you are out of luck :P

There are also only about 350 movies on there, when the press release stated

"Ezyflix would initially provide access to a catalogue of 1500 movies and about 300 to 400 television series."

good to see they start of with a large lie before they even launch!

anybody tried actually watching something yet?

I notice that some movies aren't even available in HD at all.

ETA: I can't find a single movie that is actually available in HD! Only the TV shows seems to have an HD option.

also not impressed, these services are about the content, and its just lacking. the main reason i use netflix is for tv shows, the large collection available from many many different genres/countries (outrageous fortune is on netflix :)).

if they want to charge for tvs shows, then these have to be the latest episodes hours after they air in america (if they air sunday night in america (their timezone), i want to watch it monday night here (our timezone)). vudu does this very well, and paying a season pass for the walking dead is great. however paying the same price for a season that aired a year ago, pass (i personally would rather buy the bluray and just rip it to hdd)

I have recently started purchasing a few CD's again to add to my nearly 20year collection (some all time favorites, that I have never ever bought before).

On ebay CD's can be fairly cheap, and I can get great CD's delivered for sometimes as little as $8 - $10. And I get the shiny disk to keep. Far cheaper than buying the digital copy from itunes or on google play.

I digitize all my CD's and upload them to google play for playing in the car and on my android phone etc ...

But. Nothing beats playing the real thing on my CD player at home. I have my entire CD collection right next to my CD player.

On that note. I'm keen to start investing in some vinyl too. Maybe I'm just old school.

saw some vinyl records in The Warehouse, they are now more expensive than CD's and i then had to explain to my 14 year old what they were and then what a record player is. Getting old

Well, this is an interesting comparison. In theory, your assumption is true and a subscription service with the content I enjoy should be ok.

Thinking about long term, I presumably will spend more money paying for subscriptions than paying for owning only the content I want. Actually, this is the difference between service and product. I.e. when I think about "Game of Thrones" I want to have it (and additionally I don't want a physical media stealing my space on a shelf) and I don't care if "The Mummy 2" is available as well, then in this case I prefer the product, not the service.

I am not saying the subscription model is a bad thing at all, it is just about what suits my habits. And for me this decision is completely related to the content type. Regarding music, I use Spotify and I am absolutely happy with it.
