Join sky for $50 for 6 months?

That's a $300 outlay, and for me, it's not worth the spend, given there's nothing else on Sky that I want to watch. The nice thing about Fanpass is that I can turn it on and off at will, so I only pay for about 4 months a year in total. I'll make do with the Prime coverage if I can't get the Olympics any other way. Or go to my parents' house and watch their Sky ;o)

Pity FanPass doesn't have the Olympics on it but I guess Sky would want to give it away cheaply as they would rather you sign up for 6 moths plus a MySky.

SS 3 and 4 have it, Prime has about 9 hours a day live, hope its reasonably watchable.

SS3 and 4 are about 7-12 hours per day per channel live (it varies across the duration of the games) with the rest being replays or delayed.

All in the next six months. $55/month for fanpass (only 2 channels of Olympics) or $50/month for 6 months.

Yeah, theres nothing else on Sky that you want to watch, oh rabid cricket fan.......

Agreed, Sky will likely have the cricket for a similar price as paying for Fanpass over the next 6 months, considering I'd probably have to pay the HD ticket on top, but there's drama of cancelling the subscription and returning the decoder, which I have no room for in my entertainment cabinet anyway... I just can't see myself going to that sort of trouble for 3 weeks of Olympic coverage that's mostly on at night anyway. Plus I like the ability to have Fanpass playing on my iPad while the rest of the family watches something else (they don't share my love of test match cricket), and it's much better quality and more reliable than SkyGo. So, for me, Fanpass is a better option, and I'll cobble my Olympic coverage together out that and whatever other I already have access to :o)

Edited to add: I hadn't considered the possibility that Sky might fail to secure the rights for Black Caps v South Africa or India, but that's another tick in the Fanpass column for me - I can just cancel the sub for those months, since there's no locked-in period.

So its not that there is nothing else you'd watch, its that you just cant be bothered. So its really just not that important for you. At least be honest about it.

Huh? I clearly stated I had Fanpass for the cricket, and there truly is nothing else on Sky that would entice me to lock myself into a contract for six months. Not three weeks of Olympics, and not any of their other programming. The nuisance value is certainly an additional factor, but it's not the deciding one. Anyway, this thread is about Rio streaming options, not Claire's reasons for not getting Sky ;o) Getting back on topic, Unotelly responded immediately to my support ticket and have flagged the Olympics On 7 app with their engineers. They said they'd get back to me when they'd had a look at it, so I'll update when I find out more.

I just checked, and the BBC sport app works just fine on my Samsung TV, so hopefully there will be decent coverage between there and iPlayer.

If you're in Australia you can download and stream the Olympics on 7 app which has all the free to air coverage being broadcast on 7Plus, the official broadcaster for Australia. If you pay $19 as an in-app purchase, you'll get the premium version which, as I understand, is pretty much every event live across 36 channels. The free to air should be more than sufficient, unless you're really into it and want to watch every moment of the more obscure sports.

Well, since i actually live in the UK, I will be watching it on the BBC. Via their online coverage, it looks like I can pretty much watch the events.

The quality of the streams was decent, but I'm not sure if it's true HD. I'll check on my bigger screen tonight.

Has anyone found an app where i can set calendar reminders for events I nominate? The BBC Sport app looks OK, but there are some events I can't set reminders for.

They normally make a flurry of updates to the BBC sport all to app alerts. Just before the euro cup they updated it so you could tag certain teams. Nothing in there yet?

I prefer British commentators who know what they're talking about and experienced in commentating on their events. NZ commentators - if experienced in commentating in event at world class level that's fine. Americans are ok, but they tend to over dramatize and focus on stats, stats, stats ... ok Missy Franklin swam her last 8 200m free under x seconds that's fine. SBW carried 76 metres in each 30 min block he plays WTF

Only takes away the enjoyment if a sport where someone local isn't covered. Also availability + cost effectiveness are good drivers to overlooking aspects like that.

If fanpass did an olympics package that I could play on my tv (chromecast if I had to, or apple tv/roku/amazon + insert sold device here) then I'd look at it. I'm not going to subscribe to sky for a 16 day period when I'm already pretty well set up for media devices.

Not that it matters the box only has 4 tuners ...
