I think TVNZ is looking at a paid add free one as well.

Not sure what will happen with market fragmentation, as not all of them are going to get everyone’s money at once.

I doubt that TVNZ can pull that off because they don't have the content and their core audience is older people, but it would be great if Mediaworks could do it. I don't use services like Netflix because I'm not interested in overseas content, but I would happily pay to watch programmes like Newshub Nation or Westside on demand without ads.

Terrible quality, backward technology, rotten content. Howso everything you need to watch in one place? Sky almost never had anything I want to watch. Thank goodness for geo-unblocking.

The technology is not backward, it's just how Sky chose to use it that's the problem - quantity over quality.

Would only apply to American companies and/or companies that provide services to Americans from what I understand. Lightbox, for example, has no obligation to do so as they are a NZ company exclusively dealing with NZ customers. Companies who don't want to go to the effort to set up their own presence in New Zealand could easily sign with Lightbox as a local distributor and Lightbox itself would not be required to comply with American rules. I'm hoping American streaming companies go down the route of operating their services the same way Netflix does—i.e. one platform regardless of where you are. Will be interesting to see how it turns out.

I watch more TVNZ then media works, guess it comes down to what you like.

It would be on top of existing services, not a replacement, way I read the article it's something they're thinking about, they may not go ahead.

I note that New Zealand Netflix does seem to be getting these other services exclusives - ie, Titans is on Netflix after all the episodes had aired on DCs service in the USA, so are there arrangements in place for International Netflix to get these licences because all these new streaming services are geolocked to the USA (and maybe Canada?)

Netflix got the international rights for the show, like The Good Fight or Star Trek Discovery on CBS All Access being on Prime Video outside the US.
