I listen to Apple Music on several Apple devices which are all connected through the Cloud. I use my iPhone with a Bluetooth speaker or AirPods Max. iPad doesn’t get used much for music, but the Apple TV 4K connected to my Atmos Home Cinema system, sounds fantastic when listening to Lossless or Atmos tracks. I also use my PC occasionally, so I’ve got it covered 😁

Here's my usage

Phone only - If you mean just using the internal phone speaker? No never.
via bluetooth - Yes. A variety of different bluetooth ear pods and a UE MegaBoom I use in the when working in the garage or garden
receiver - No
chromecast audio - No
alexa - No
homepods - No
Google home speaker - No
other (eg raspberry pi via mpd) - Garmin FR 945 watch, CarPlay, Apple TV & Android TV

Still early days yet for my journey with Deezer. Still so much to understand. I have been quite impressed with how quickly it has understood my listening preferences from the limited number of playlists and favourite artists that I imported across from Spotify. My daily playlists and new music recommendations are quickly filling up with music I like.

Because spotify are paying the clown a crapload of money to be exclusive and heavily promoting it making his face appear in the app in a podcast section I have no interest in. If he was just another idiot podcast on there then sure, ignore it but they are choosing to put his stuff infront of every user of the app, most of which IME do not want anything to do with podcasts in their music app.

I didnt realize that the placement was paid for by spotify, and how much they were paying him till this controversy came up, and I would rather not pay for imbeciles even indirectly.

YouTube Music doesn't require the screen on when using the Android app. Perhaps you mean that you're running YTM in a web browser?

Similarly, in the YTM app you don't have to play videos when the music is in video format - audio only or video are user options.

YouTube Music doesn't require the screen on when using the Android app. Perhaps you mean that you're running YTM in a web browser?

Similarly, in the YTM app you don't have to play videos when the music is in video format - audio only or video are user options.

You can also disable video in the youtube music app under settings etc.

if you are playing the video you are just watching youtube, and that requires a premium subscription for background play. just turn the play video setting off and you should be good to go.

Youtube music lacks apps on things like spotify has. They seem to think the normal youtube app is good enough. Every time I have tried that on something I have selected a song when in music and its played it, but then the mix has gone on to include crap cover versions of things and worst of all, started to play professor of rock or some other person reading wikipedia facts about music out calling it a documentary.

There is no amazon music app on most devices.

Spotify managed to get integration on both games consoles which nothing else has. Not a big deal since I can just play it on something else while console gaming.

I get if free with my Spark phone plan (an old one from when they gave it away). I also pay for Tidal and haven't actually used Spotify for years, except for when I ask Alexa to play something. The fact that Tidal integration with Alexa has been US only for years really pisses me off but not enough to make me ditch them.

I'm struggling to see the logic in those considering ditching Spotify for YouTube.

Fine, you don't want to support a platform (Spotify) that host podcasts spouting information that you don't agree with.

But ditching Spotify, and then going to YouTube, in which anyone can upload any garbage, and probably is more accessible?

To me, that is just switching from one evil to another. Just my opinion.

While that is indeed a fair point, I think the logic is YouTube is an open platform where any one can post whatever they want (but this is a known quantity); where Spotify is more closed/curated. The main point though is that Spotify is funding Joe Rogan to the tune of $100 million to spout this rubbish, as well as shoving JRE podcast down users' throats via their app - YouTube isn't.

The problem with using YouTube for music is the fact audio quality is darn terrible compared to proper music streaming services. I would always recommend using a proper music streaming service (YouTube Music app or other) over playing just the YouTube video. In many cases you'll notice a huge improvement in sound quality and less data use.

Note - YouTube (https://youtube.com) and YouTube Music (https://music.youtube.com) are 2 separate apps and sites.

Also everyone - can we keep the controversial discussion out of this? There will always be those who don't agree but Spotify has also gone downhill too so many are also seeing this as the push to try other apps out. The biggest argument here is Spotify care about the controversial podcast over the artists who have pulled their music - they're a music streaming service first but are not acting that way. There are other artists who have simply pulled their music from the platform for other reasons too over the last couple of years. I was unhappy when Spotify tried shoving Drake down my throat as an advertisement and I've been also targeted by this podcast too (despite me not listening to podcasts). Netflix for example will recommend stuff to you but it is normally stuff you'd likely watch, Spotify advertising this to me (despite me never listening to Drake or that type of music along with never listening to podcasts) screams advertisement to me and I simply don't appreciate that from a streaming service I pay a monthly subscription to when there are actualyl rather decent alternatives out there who don't act this way.

And also this. I've never touched podcasts on spotify....I hate them being there. I already have podcasts apps (pocketcasts, apple podcasts). I signed up to spotify for music. But they insist on showing me podcasts on my main home page. I cannot disable them and don't want them. Coupled with a little controversy, then I am now reaching the point where they are becoming a pain to deal with and this makes me evaluate if I should be given them money.

Even before the Rogan stuff, it was this instance that Spotify wanted to take over my podcasts that first got me thinking about switching. I just want to listen to music, I use other another app for my podcasts and I like to keep them separate.

Apple CarPlay is the worst. I have to scroll past all of the podcast suggestions to get to any music.

This too - I find it often bugs out also and requires you to force-close the app on your phone and start it again for music to play. This is somewhat troublesome to do if you're driving. The Tidal Carplay experience is basic, but easy to find stuff and has not bugged out on me yet.
