Jas777: Got to say I am with SSP in this one. I watch more than just the EPL when it was on SKY so if I purchase this product it is an extra cost. If I am going to pay an extra cost then the product has to as good as what I previously got or it is no dice.

I am a bit of geek so understand some stuff but for those that aren't do you really think they will want to be fiddling around with settings on laptop/pc and TVs and/or paying extra to get someone else to do it for them?

+1 i have been spoiled watching the EPL on sky in full HD and even now i wont watch any live sport if it's not in HD. There are plenty of feeds i can watch for free if i wanted to but to get me to pay for it they have to offer a superior product and at the moment they dont look like they are.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Only helps if you follow one of the "major" teams listed if I read that right, so Sky will follow Man U, Arsenal and someone else and whoever they happen to be playing at the time.

But you'll have your HD, and only those that have cut off sky entirely will have to use the PLP site exclusively.

Still better than nothing however, should keep 90% of the fans happy and nice to be able to watch on a tv without having to airplay/cable it up from a laptop/device and "buffering" the stream or blowing data caps:)

This is intriguing. So now with Chelsea games being shown delayed on Sommet Sports plus one game on TVNZ there is now an element of competition for viewers.

PLP better sort out their quality issues pronto otherwise they won't be getting many paying subscribers.

Can't see why Sky don't simply create a Football channel including all Champions League off ESPN and offer it for $15 a month as a standalone channel from SkySports. I for one would snap their arm off as I don't watch any other sports so don't want to subscribe to SkySports package.

Sky have to accept that they have to alter their offerings now away from the all inclusive bundles in the sport world, particularly the big draws like football (never soccer!) and Rugby

So SKY have delayed rights for Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester City, Sommet have rights for Chelsea which leaves Manchester United and Liverpool. Sommet is getting 1 more and SKY 1 more so I guess it is a bidding war for Manchester United at the moment and the loser gets Liverpool.

happyone65,

Yes it is free to air but some people actually like the best quality and are willing to pay for it.

It seems Sky is the only way to get that quality atm, but then onyl for a subset of matches.

And a designed for TV experience, rather than tablet/phone/computer designed.

Anyone know how long the games are delayed, I thought it was a few days at least, which is no good to me. I couldn't avoid a score line for that long...and that spoils it for me!

so anybody know for sure how long the 'delay' is?

the article says

"Coverage will be delayed, for example games played in the U.K. on Saturdays will be available on SKY from 1.00pm on Sunday afternoon"

But that seems like barely a delay at all - 12 hours or so. I would have expected it to be at least 24 hours

If you take into account that most people probably won't watch the games live anyway at 1am, then the 'real' delay will be the choice between watching the game when you get up in the morning at, say, 8 or 9am or waiting until Sky show it at 1pm.
So unless you actually watch it live in the middle of the night, then really we are talking about a 4 hour or so delay in most cases, assuming the article is correct.
