For the followers of the "Big Six" and in particular the four that will be shown on SKY, surely this will make a huge difference to their decision whether or not to sign-up to PLP. As a Man U fan I'm hoping like mad that SKY get Man U as their 4th team so I can continue watching the greatest team in the world in HD.
What I also hope is that this prompts PLP to get off their back-sides and up the quality of their stream to provide a viable alternative - if the stream was good enough I'd pay the $150 in order to be able to watch live or anytime thereafter and thereby avoid having to avoid finding out results for half a day or more.
Netflix and a couple of others opened up their services to open source software through the release of their APIs. This allowed Open Source developers to create plugins for XBMC, MediaPortal etc to control through their media systems via a remote rather than a webpage. It's how Samsung have released their apps.
If PLP was to do this, then it would allow smart tv, open source apps to be developed easily. It still requires you to log in with a valid sub, but you can watch the stuff in a more traditional manner. With a higher bit rates and open APIs that would sway me as I'm not a fan of long delays before playback.

Couldn't agree more. As a gooner who watches the way I do, I am better off than I've ever been before. I now get all the cup games as well. My routine was to watch on Sunday afternoon over a couple of pints. The "the live" advantage wasn't a big factor for me. The only issue will be watching Sunday games as I'm used to wacthing those before work but it's a good trade off and I can normaly avoid the results if I need to.
This is great news if you support one of the big clubs or spurs.
I wonder how much research coliseum did to see how many people watch live at 2 am versus delayed.
Either way, Iv'e gone in 5 days from 100% to 50% to 0% chance of getting PLP. I guess I just wasted $160 on an Apple TV (oh well every cloud)

Fellow Arsenal fan here and this is wonderful news. Solves my dilemma about whether to keep Sky and what to do about PLP vs other online means. And we even get the cup games we never got before. I always recorded them in the night anyway so the delay doesn't bother me too much - just means I'll do my Sunday errands in the morning before watching it instead of after. Not sure what it means for the Sunday games (ie, early morning Monday here) which I'd usually record and then watch at 6.30 before going to work. Might mean having to record in the day and avoid the result before watching when I get home from work. Am used to doing that when midweek games have been live at 9am here anyway.
For any other Arsenal fans who hadn't noticed, ESPN has the Emirates Cup this weekend on TV.
Think this anouncement will put PLP out of business to be honest. Sky and Sommet are still to announce one team each, which will presumably be Man Utd and Liverpool, the 2 with the largest fanbase in NZ. So with Man Utd, Man City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs and Liverpool all available on TV, surely that means a lot less subscribers for PLP. Of course there are fans of other teams, but I suspect a large chunk of fans in NZ support one of those 6. Can see PLP selling the rights back to Sky next season now.

Would have thought Liverpool would be one of those teams. The recent Melbourne game shows that they are still one of the biggest brand names in sport and if you wanted to keep subscribers, they would have been the team to do it.
Benoire: So a little bit of competition eh, now although we can't compare the packages directly this is less of a monopoly than before as we have a choice of providers for some of the football. It's just a shame that my club, Man Utd (before anyone says anything I'm born and bred that side of Manchester), hasn't be confirmed as I do not wish to pay for a poor quality online service.
I notice that the Sky statement is that the games are delayed until 1pm on Sunday, what happens to the Sunday games? I used to record and get up at 6am to watch before work otherwise I'll know the score and then I'm less likely to watch. Will they be delayed till the evening or will I get to watch at 6am as I used to?

I'm pretty sure both Sky and Sommet Sports are looking for the rights to one more club each, so it seems pretty likely that one of them will get Man United, and the other will probably get Liverpool.
Makes sense being that they are the 2 biggest EPL teams in the world.
Not to forget that with 6 teams having all thier games on, the other 14 clubs are guaranteed a third of thier games will be on when they play those 6 twice. Might mean they don't get to see many wins though.

As a Gooner myself I wonder if this is just going to show what they show on the Arsenal website. They have a 24 hour delay for showing games but I cant remember the last time we played at 3pm on a Saturday which means spending the entire day trying to not hear the score.
It goes on to say "Coverage will be delayed, for example games played in the U.K. on Saturdays will be available on SKY from 1.00pm on Sunday afternoon." Which matches the 24 hour period, especially the word 'from'. There is sometimes a midday kickoff which matches the 1pm. So I wouldn't expect to be watching the football at 1pm every Sunday.
I'm wondering if it will just be easier to sign up for the Arsenal site and be done with it. I'm sure with Sky it will be another $100 a month deal when that almost pays for an entire year on Arsenal.com

That's a good observation but a concerning thought. The quality on Arsenal Player makes PLP look like actually being at the stadium.

So there will be NO live games?! Personnely I don't see any positives...nothing beats watching (the mighty Blues) without knowing the score!
