Benoire:

I  thought Sky had the paramount/CBS stuff?

edit - online streaming rights are just plain weird.  Used to be easy with content aggregators to know who had what!

https://www.screenscribe.net/tvnz-showcases-viacomcbs-pact/comment-page-1/

I don’t know what’s going on. Not happy though as it means Paramount Originals won’t be 4K/HDR and no Dolby digital sound on streaming with TVNZ doing it.

Edit: Link to story where Sky had the rights, hence not sure what is going on, Did Sky Sell them?, were they renegotiated?

You could try and access with a VPN  and make it look like you're from Ozz or the US..

So reading between the lines - all content goes to Neon and some Sky channels.

We'll Likely see the shows we were expecting turn up there after Xmas. A "New Year Line-Up" no doubt.

What about the other link in my post:

https://www.screenscribe.net/tvnz-showcases-viacomcbs-pact/comment-page-1/

In light of this I question whether all content goes to Neon and some Sky Channels.

Not sure who is getting Discovery, which is already up to episode 3 when last looked overseas. The TVNZ one does mention Paramount+ originals so probably they are getting that one.

Both articles mention Charmed, so maybe not all content exclusive to one party.

Show Time ones look like they are exclusive to Sky.

My issue with the NZ FTA channels getting these,  as opposed to a standalone service, is the back catalogue

It seems like they don't get all the previous seasons - or even get to keep the current season episodes longer than a few weeks - i assume that it costs more to get/keep the old episodes, so they don't

it may not even be an offered option...

NZ broadcasters literally will be price and content takers in the agreements and given the minute size of the NZ market, the $ involved will be a rounding error for the content provider...

Is anyone up to speed with how we are supposed to watch Star Trek Discovery and the upcoming Star Trek Picard S2 legally in NZ? or by some miracle Paramount+ will launch in NZ by March?

Discovery is on Paramount+

Which for NZ means TVNZ, who seem to be holding off releasing it for now. Welcome back to the past, for media from Paramount.

https://www.screenscribe.net/tvnz-showcases-viacomcbs-pact/

“The pact, which usurps Prime’s content deal with the distributor, covers both new and library content, including Paramount+ originals.”

It looks like Prime still holds international rights for Picard, from a goggle search looks like season 2 is due 4 March.

I just signed up for a trial of the US Paramount+, and was very disappointed to find it only supports 4K HDR on a very limited number of devices. And Atmos on even fewer. The poor support of HDR is a deal breaker for me because I stream US content on my Xbox, and I'm not willing to pay for 4K HDR and only get 1080p SDR.

4K HDR/Dolby Vision supported devices:

  • Select Roku models*
  • Amazon Fire TV (4K Stick, Cube)
  • Android TV
  • Apple TV 4K HDR (5th Gen)

Dolby Atmos supported devices:

  • iPhone or iPad
  • Apple TV

So Atmos is only available on Apple devices?  How randomly weird!  Its disappointing how limited these companies make their apps or their own content :-(

The only reason I’d use Paramount+ is for the upcoming Halo. Even then I’d likely not subscribe if the reviews aren’t good.

Does anyone know when paramount will open for NZ? (without using VPN / pretending to be in USA or anything)

I just get directed to the splash page.

Also, is there a way to see what will be available 9before it opens)
