"Blinked" here is in the sense that they could have been conservative and sold the service as Chromecast plus DishTV A2 plus smartphones only. Smart TVs are a gamble because the vast majority are underpowered. And some are not even Android TV OS so you can count they won't be as well supported.

Yes. But then, why cant I watch it thats not fair. Maybe NZ is not ready for live streaming, lets stick to Sky, then we have Sky bagging threads that tell us to get with the times.

One thing I am seeing is that sometimes during the ads and studio coverage the video freezes for a second or two, the audio continues unaffected however.

I also note it seems they have sorted the audio sync issue they were having when the augmented reality graphics are on screen.

Difficult to have a continuous stream as some off the studio lead up means that’s games overlap a little.. but I know you were just kidding.

No freezes at all today.... what devices/setup are you using?

Anyway, as I said I do wonder if Spark should reach out to Sky to help get a solution. Sky is the expert here and Sky's platform has been rock solid. Even though they're competitors, this is the Rugby World Cup we're talking about. It could be a nice moment in NZ's corporate history and make the world "a better place" (with a nod to 1997 Apple and Microsoft)

Mate, the Sky bashing threads here and everywhere are legendary. Does this mean we can bash Sky for years unless it suits?? They should have paid for the rights, as they always do

looking at traffic stats here (2deg 100/20 fibre in Porirua) the data is not as peaky as yesterday. Spark app 1.5.5 on shield TV.

Yesterday it would be peaks and then back to 0, today there are wider peaks (at approx 12mbit) and drops down to 8mbit rather than 0.

I think I read somewhere this stream comes from Japan to New Zealand where the local content is inserted and then goes to the US for encoding and then streaming back to us in New Zealand which explains why there is such a long delay in the actual picture vs over-the-air.

The resolution is 1080p not 1080i.

I had it on pretty good authority that its only being transmitted to spark at 50fps and spark are upscaling it before sending it out... god knows where they are pulling 10fps from.

I had terrible pics and audio drop outs all blinking day, tried restarting everything twice and got the same issue. I gave up and bolted to the pub in the end. even through a modulator at the pub it looked better than what I had paid for. Ill see about a refund to cover the costs of booz

No-one has forgotten about the poor quality of Sky broadcasts. But there was little alternative option at that time. One would have hoped a new service on new infrastructure would take the lessons learnt by previous providers and resolve them, not introduce more problems of a similar ilk - i.e. substandard picture quality.

There were HEAPS of alternatives at that time. Google Monopoly. But no one had the balls to complete. So Sky was left to have an easy time.

I meant there weren't any real alternatives because Sky had the rights. The only alternative was waiting for FTA. I'm not talking about alternative services that could have competed for rights.

If it was as easy as looking on paper at the stated resolution of the broadcast/stream and then stating which is better from that, it would certainly make things easy :D

Real world results are what counts. No doubt things will get better, but there's certainly teething issues and the expected/potential quality was not realised when it counted (an All Blacks test).

AS it is considered a sport of national significance, I have no problem with taxpayers money being spent to make sure it is on FTA TV. RNZ is supposed to eventually morph into some for of BBC eventually. It was funny to see how it was reported as the main news, almost like it was a national disaster that Spark had glitches broadcasting it.

I hope when they do have problems, and it has to be broadcast on Duke, that they aren't going to blcok streaming access, liek they currently are, as many people who are purchasing it on Spark will also only have streaming, and no UHF access.

Apple TV 4K, Vodafone fibre 100/20, Ethernet connected. Weird as because it is only happening in the ads and studio stuff, games are going fine today.
