Apple TV 4K, Vodafone fibre 100/20, Ethernet connected. Weird as because it is only happening in the ads and studio stuff, games are going fine today.

I had it on pretty good authority that its only being transmitted to spark at 50fps and spark are upscaling it before sending it out... god knows where they are pulling 10fps from.

In conversation its often stated as 30/60. But if its 25/50 content its sent as that.

As far as I'm aware all the RWC content is actually 50.

Spark say that it was not a load issue that caused the problem:

Latch said Spark believed it had fixed the problem and all three matches last night played perfectly.

It was not a load issue that caused a problem, Latch said, but in the video pathway configuration in New Zealand where the volumes are tiny.

On Saturday, 25,000 new subscribers came in with 100 people signing up a minute, a lot of whom left it until the 11th hour and needed assistance getting set up, Latch said.

He could not guarantee the rest of the tournament would not be faultless with Spark's streaming service, but could guarantee the platform, network and production has tested well and been outstanding.

I don't think it will be talked about except inside, but I'd guess it was a problem with the feed distribution to some specific nodes plus one or two misconfigured node routes causing problems, hence only parts of specific ISPs saw problems.

But we will not know for sure unless the fault is ever discussed by some people outside Spark.

If the problem was a "video pathway configuration in New Zealand", then why does Spark say that the majority of viewers didn't have a problem? Why didn't this problem affect everybody's equipment?

If the numbers are true, only 132,000 streamed the abs game and that's tiny compared to a Sky broadcasted test. I don't see how this is commercially viable. Many of those, like me, got the wc free when I joined Spark. How many are full paying?

I thought the same. That's a very very very low uptake. Hopefully they'll get one or two more.

Id see it as like any new business, it wont launch with full market penetration. Take F1 for me, It started off as "will it be ok??" I now take it for granted, it always works, it will always work, turn it on and watch, I'm not interested if its Spark Sport or if its streaming, or if it may have an issue. I just use it. When thats prevalent across the board, then takeup will follow

Thats not even enough "paying" customers to break even. Lets not even talk about the thousands applying for refunds...

Also the 6000 drop off Spark is talking about is laughable. Tell us how many watched the final 5 mins after the Duke simulcast message was broadcast.

That must be 132,000 streams consumed, not people watching.
Presumably the audience must have been closer to half a million pairs of eyes.

What would be interesting to know is how many people were watching or recording the delayed coverage on TV1.

I was in a pub in Ohakune on Friday evening and they had three guys frantically stringing HDMI cables around the place. It looked a complete dog's breakfast, but they had the Spark Sport WRC coverage showing on all five TVs by the time I left. Judging by the dialogs I saw on-screen, they had three HDMI outputs on the box they were streaming on ("reflect main screen on screens 2 & 3"), so there must have been an HDMI splitter or two as well.

It looked like they were expecting quite a big audience for Saturday!

I've had the ads freezing issue since the Opening Ceremony.

Games except NZvSA have been flawless. NZvSA I got resolution lowering, but no freezing. It was annoying when it happened, but the game didn't freeze or stop for me.

I'm not sure I believe Sparks explanations. Why did it happen on the biggest (most audience) game and none of the others if it isn't a capacity issue somewhere in the chain?

I'll keep using the App, but we really aren't going to know until the QF with the ABs. Next weeks game is late at night v Canada (not as big an audience I suspect). The games v Namibia and Italy are both at good viewing times on a Saturday, so they could be popular streams. If the Namibia one fails, surely they will have to put the rest of the games onto Duke.

I'll give up on them if it (NZvNamibia, Sat Oct 6, 5.45pm) fails.
