Do I have to subscribe to a different country when I want to watch their catalogue, or can I just subscribe to NZ Netflix, and then watch Brazil NetFlix (For example) and it counts it as 1 subscription? Im guessing it's all 1 subscription, just thought I would ask though.

"Exclusivity is a means to added value .its competition ", that is very close to an oxymoron. Exclusivity is as close to anti-comeptitive you can get, it is literally contracting competition out of the game. When content resellers have exclusivity on a particular show they have a monopoly on selling that production. They aren't adding value (well very very very little value), as the delivery cost is next to nothing, so all they are doing is charging you extra and clipping the ticket to view something extra - at least in the days of broadcasting they were actually providing a physical service.

Exclusivity for live content production eg, sports, can be considered competitive as the value being delivered is in the content production, but re-selling the live rights with exclusive contracts is anti-competitive.

So the best we can do now is get our US Netflix, try and make the NZ companies squirm and put pressure on the government to update NZ's laws for the internet age. To be honest, I do not know why Sky, Spark and co aren't pushing for the government to effectively ban exclusivity on reselling content - the long term outlook isn't good for regional businesses like that unless they can offer consumer friendly packages tailored to the NZ Consumers. Unless that happens their business is going to be gobbled up by the big offshore companies like Hulu, Netflix etc.

You're absolutely right. We should boycott any content distributors that have exclusive content deals until they realise the folly of their ways and only provide on a non-exclusive basis.

No TV3

No Hulu

No [insert any other company that has exclusive deals]

Unotelly user here, haven't been able to get to US Netflix for a few weeks. Have tried every combination of DNS server and "region" possible with at best mixed results - some devices working some not. Unotelly support who up until now have always been very quick to respond and very thorough no longer seem very interested with slow responses simply pointing you to support documentation that doesn't quite resolve the issue and wishing you a nice day. In short, I give up. I will keep unotelly for now as have a while left on my sub and it at least gives me BBC, Sky News etc, but it does indeed look as though Netflix are winning the battle.

To be fair, NZ Netflix can only get better and right now is far better than no Netflix at all.

Just so I understand. Its okay for someone to have exclusive content as long as it suits you but when someone else has exclusive content that you cant access its not okay.

If thats the case then the only way to send the message is to not partake in the resellers service. Subscribing to Netflix US to make NZ companies squirm is hypocritical. Netflix (and Amazon and Hulu and the BBC) all partake in the same behavior. How do you propose to send them a message when you're condoning their actions by subscribing to their service?

It isn't hypocritical, it is giving them an incentive to push for change and not accept the status quo. And in the end, if things don't change then I will still try to get the most content I want to see at the best price legally - which at the moment is netflix US - lets face it, its hard to see things being worse and more expensive than getting it through nz middlemen anyway.

No. The best is to not condone exclusive deals by not consuming. The best that suits you is for you to watch Netflix US. That may not be the best that suits someone else. It is hypocritical. You're saying its okay for Netflix to have exclusive content but no one else - and especially no one in NZ.

Still not hypocritical, no matter how much you try to say so. I'm pushing for change in NZ, and if I can legally devalue and undermine the exclusive deals the NZ middlemen arrange, and enough other people do it you are encouraging change. Not buying the content doesn't undermine the exclusive deals, it adheres to them.

My unotelly has today well and truly died. Anyone else having problems? Netflix, Hulu, nz apps no longer work through unotelly.
Can anyone recommend another provider? Unotelly just don't respond like they use too. They're finished
