As always we get slightly screwed on the exchange rate Aussies getting it cheaper @8.99AUD=9.49NZD (as of today's exchange rate) not 9.99NZD that we will pay here.

Don't forget to factor in 10% vs 15% gst though. But even then, yes slightly more, but it just becomes marketing rounding.

Don't forget a bit of kiwi tax in there as well.

Noting one of the references is specifically to tvOS, it doesn't look like a Disney app will be available for the earlier Apple TVs.

But what's the chance of the Android app working ok on the Amazon Fire TVs (via sideloading)? I'm thinking some apps work perfectly on the Amazon Fire, eg BBC iPlayer.

Or is there a chance that someone will develop a plugin for Kodi? (always a last resort for me, given the relatively poor interface; would potentially rather Airplay...)

Hopefully in time they'll also release apps for the main brands of smart TVs as well...

Well out of those "headline" films, I dont see anything that would have me subscribing.

I have seen most of those films at the movies and dont have a desire to watch again.

Maybe we will see the return of physical media...

TwoSeven: Hopefully it will include ESPN+ in the Disney+ bundle. I believe ESPN has the worldwide rights to the NWSL so it will be good to see some US soccer.

dont hold your breath for ESPN+, pretty sure Sky has that sewn up and they do show US soccer

I understood that Sky show ESPN but I think will only be showing a couple of the US Woman’s teams internationals. I believe the [woman's] league games are ESPN+

I did read in one of the many articles that Disney+ will be supporting the Apple TV app. Since that's now on the earlier Apple TVs, perhaps you'll be able to watch Disney+ content through that?

Sky signed their multi year deal with Disney back in 2015, you’d have to think that must be coming to an end because why would Disney launch a half baked product without most of their content?? Surprised I haven’t seen anything mentioned about it at the sky earnings call today.

Very cool, yes. If someone cant find a nice clump of good viewing there, something wrong.

I guess we can take this as the first kid off the block bypassing typical SVOD distribution channels and going direct?

Along with the 5 Marvel shows already announced for Disney+ Marvel just announced 3 new ones. Ms Marvel. Moon Knight and She-Hulk. No release dates were given.

Not bad. Got most of that stuff on bluray already though.

Wow, I'm really looking forward to this. So many classics. I wonder if we will get the full catalog or if Sky will retain some rights. This article mentions that it is "still being worked out which Disney content would be on Sky, and which available via Disney's own app."

Id say it wont have everything. Over time, as rights expire it will eventually have everything. Probably not that long, maybe 3 years.

I can see myself teaming up with some friends and doing a 'timeshare' on content providers at this rate :(

My biggest concern as this all progresses is that I'm going to have 28 odd apps to manage across varying devices and platforms, with individual accounts and billing systems. It'll be an unending nightmare, at the rate we're going. Even if I have to pay piecemeal per content owner, I'd rather there just be some sort of neutral master platform for content delivery - basically Steam for streaming video. This market fragmentation is going to be the biggest hurdle to overcome, I think, even more than cost. However, Moonknight means I'm absolutely onboard for the punishment of another TV provider.

4K at no extra cost. 4 devices at once. Profiles...

“The Disney+ mobile app, meanwhile, will support offline downloads. Disney says the number of shows and movies you can download is unlimited, so the only restriction is the amount of free storage you have on your smartphone or tablet. That's on top of the fact Disney+ will stream content in 4K, HDR and Dolby Atmos”
