TVNZ has applied widevine encryption to all content. reason why old devices wont work any longer.

I thought it was something like that. How do I fix it? None of my devices are working, including Nvidia Shield, KII Pro, and generic Android boxes. I am using both Huisman and Appsat playlists. I don't give a crap about TVNZ but this is unacceptably heavy-handed. What, they can't think of anything other than a nuclear blast to get rid of a gnat?

Use the TVNZ app. The method you are using to view was never officially offered so when it breaks it’s bad luck.

gzt: If the change is Widevine alone I'm surprised it's a problem. Widevine is used by most if not alone major services. Can anyone point to the tech details?

or does it just require use of an official app and users don't like that?

It's not an issue if you are using the official app on a modern device. It's only an issue if you were using an unsupported workaround, these can stop working at anytime.

It's all working again! Not sure what happened but my generic Android box suddenly sprang back to life, both Kodi and TiviMate.

I'm not having any issues on my Nvidia Shield - on demand or live.

Clearly they think the 'rights' holders are more important than the viewers.

This just reminds me of how much FTA TV sucks in this country.  I've spent an hour or so wondering why I have no TV tonight.

TVNZ is making a change that offers additional content at no cost and they suck? Really?

Have you ever known an official app to work the way you wanted it to? Unsupported workarounds exist for a reason.

You've chosen not to use a supported way of watching for whatever reason. If you do something unsupported and it stops working that's a you problem, it's not a provider problem.

If an officially supported way of watching stops working that's a very different scenario.

You are wrong. If a provider is selling a service, and it does something that makes it more difficult for some of its customers to access that service, then it is shooting itself in the face. It doesn't matter if its customers are accessing the service in an unofficial manner. They don't care. All they care about is that something that worked for them before doesn't any longer. Any company that treats its customers like that is not going to survive for long.

Good luck with that. This is going to be a nett positive for TVNZ

It looks like they've reverted one of the changes as we now have a clear stream again

With the live streams they are trying to kill off the older linear HLS m3u8 streams. So they only have to support MPD with widevine DRM

Its all very secure now 😉

Would it not affect everyone using an 'older' smart TV to watch the live streams? I would expect there would be some of these. And why apply this to all streams? I thought it was just the Sports channel that needs this.

It doesn't need it!  TVNZ is now the new Home of Sport, but most of the decent Spark Sport content isn't there

MotoGP, LET I think although they may have the odd highlights. WRC, Heineken Cup in Europe, Soccer. Spark Sport had a lot of sport, most of which I had no interest in, TVNZ+ even visually has bugger all

I assumed the content would be pretty much identical, but it seems to be heavily pruned
