Tested so far on iPhone and Mac, both look like civil war footage. 480p at best!
Perhaps people mentioning problems could also include their ISP, just in case it is something specific.

Had a look at the TVNZ 1/2/DUKE livestreams on the website, it appears that in the backend they are now 1080p50 with 5.1 audio - however they explicitly filter these options from being returned to the web client at least. They are also DRM'd now (with Widevine/Playready/Fairplay depending on your client).
Here's the ffprobe output of the livestream for those interested in the exact codecs etc:

Nice work. Is there any chance we can get access to a 1080 feed for devices like Kodi?
Generally known online as OpenMedia, now working for Red Hat APAC as a Technology Evangelist and Portfolio Architect. Still playing with MythTV and digital media on the side.
Wow, this upgrade sucks. Now have to quit the app every time I use it on the Apple TV. I wonder if we’ll ever see a Freeview app released to ATV in our lifetime…..

Quic here. Also tried Spark 5G.
On my TV setup the app seemed to update OK. But I can get NOTHING to play. Some programmes I can raise the introductory screen, but the only options are "You might like", and "My List". No play option. No remote buttons work. "My List" is an empty black screen.
Apple TV 4K 128GB, tvOS 26.4. ISP: One Ultrafast HFC.

You are likely seeing the 432p 1.2Mb/s stream I've been getting on Apple TV.
I have been able to get 1080p on a few movies I have tested on a web browser. A lot of stuff seems to max out at 720p though.

It's definitely possible. The main issue is the DRM, and there's a bit of a complex sequence of HTTP requests that needs to happen before you can get a DRM license, so I imagine it might only be possible inside of an addon rather than through a generic IPTV addon. But to actually activate the higher quality feeds its just a matter of removing a couple of URL parameters that do the actual filtering.
Maybe at some point they'll update the live stream for Freeview to use the same source (since that will need to have a simpler (or no) DRM flow), rather than having to maintain two feeds, but I'm not holding my breath!
May have missed it but haven’t seen any reference to this in other media.
Apart from the UI mess, that may be because, unlike people here on GZ, the average viewer doesn’t really care (or know or understand) about resolution and picture quality. Many of our friends would be oblivious to this and would just watch it.
Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Kodi on most devices already supports WideVine DRM, it became a requirement for the previous big TVNZ+ update.

Anyone had any luck blocking ads via firefox when watching from computer? Seems the update has stopped it from working like before.

Here's the problem I'm seeing on the Amazon Fire TV Stick. It looks like they have not updated the old app with the correct Amazon links.
The Amazon Fire TV app received an update overnight, working now.

Well I'm sure they wouldn't bag their own platform on 1News :).
Quality has marginally improved since yesterday, someone is listening!
