I just had to report this. I have a 2021 Sony Bravia X95J 75" LCD/LED TV in my lounge, but because my wife isn't into movies like I am, I have never used it to watch 4K content because of that, also because I don't have any sort of sound system set up in that room. On Friday, I asked my brother in law, who is staying with us for a few weeks, if he fancied watching a movie. We decided to watch The Shallows from my iTunes library. I have seen it before, but my brother in law hadn't. From the very first scene, I was gobsmacked at the incredible vision before me. Throughout the film there are some amazing overhead shots of the crystal clear water and even my brother in law commented on how good it looked.
I normally watch my movies on my Panasonic OLED 65" in my Man Cave, but LED TV's are closing the gap if Friday's experience is anything to go by. The added brightness of an LCD/LED really makes a film like The Shallows shine, because of the many sunlit water scenes. The blacks were also very good and I think that I may replace my OLED with a top of the line LCD/LED TV when/if the time comes.
I know this isn't the film review thread, but I have to say I really enjoyed The Shallows, which was a short entertaining flick enhanced by the gorgeous Blake Lively in the leading role.
I'm gonna start saving for a Dolby Atmos soundbar to replace the photos of my grandchildren in front of the TV ๐
