I just saw that. It really depends how late it is, if it's a matter of days, it isn't really a big issue.
Will be a better article if Sparks side of the story is presented too in the interests of fairness.
The problem I'd have with going to a wholesale provider, is that it's just *another* link in the chain that could go wrong. If I buy from 2D, then there could potentially be a lot more finger pointing going on, all with me sandwiched in the middle of it.
Obviously, that's the worst case scenario, but on the basis that I operate, plan for worst case, hope for the best.

Oh the irony. The biggest voice complaining about restrictive behaviour in the sports rights market kicks an own goal by doing what it said should be stopped.
"2degrees has kicked out at Spark, accusing it of not yet fulfilling a pledge to develop a wholesale arrangement that would allow other internet providers to sell live-streaming of the Rugby World Cup."
I dont follow that. It's a RWC thread, so lets look at that. When its on Sky, it's on Sky. When its on SS, anybody can subscribe for 6 weeks, irregardless of RSP. So no need to wholesale? As anybody can grab it. If they wholesaled, then 2Degree's etc wants a margin. So if Spark needs a return, and half the country wants it wholesaled, the price would need to increase to cover that. Everyone loses, ie every consumer of the RWC as this consumers need to pay every other RSP the margin.

It won't be another technical finger in the pie, just another $ finger in the pie. Its just a billing issue. The feed from Japan goes to US goes to Akamai, goes to the RSP (Note I didn't mention Spark) Each RSP needs to grab it from Akamai, including Spark.
Short story, its a ticket clipper.

Theres clearly a quid pro quo for RSP's ensuring smooth links and traffic flow during the RWC. That quid pro quo is the opportunity to wholesale the RWC. If an RSP wants to sell the package at a discount to the retail price in order to get extra broadband subs then that RSP wears the cost of the discount (much like Spark offering Netflix ($15/mth value for an extra $10/mth cf the Unplan package or Spark offering a discount on the wholesale Fanpass price to its customers - that discount is worn by Spark to get broadband share).
The RSP's are complaining that Spark are getting a free march on selling RWC packages in May and cornering the market through not having a wholesale agreement with anyone (a monopolistic practice of exclusive sales at favourable prices).

Spark paid for it, they wear the risk, why would they give away that to those that are not wearing the risk? They could if they upped the price to the consumer so as to pay the margin to other RSP's who are just billing and no more.
Smooth links and traffic flow? Explain that. Its in any RSP's interest to manage their network. Does Netflix run great on my RSP but poor on another? I see SS as a business, like MANY businesses that use the internet. If Spark wholesaled then they have to increase the price for all of us to cover that, thats not great for consumers. Its not a monopoly as anyone in NZ can subscribe, if you are not with Spark you are not locked out. Does that mean that every online business has to wholesale to everyone else?
My understanding is, they agreed to Wholesale, it was part of obtaining the rights. If they said they would do it, they should do it, in a timely competitive way that doesn't give them unfair advantage.
If they didn't want to wholesale, then they shouldn't have agreed to do so and told people the timeframe.
It does feel a little off really.
On another note;
I see the Rugby Pass is finally on sale. I was going to order ASAP, but I have remaining concerns about how long after a game finishes, that it will be available on demand. I know right now the timeframes are pretty variable.
Is there an official stance on what the final delay will be?
01EG:networkn:30 days Bought it, I cant find how to watch the Archive content, available now now
, but I have remaining concerns about how long after a game finishes, that it will be available on demand.
Hi.
I don't think I was clear. I meant how long between game playing live, and the game being available to play ondemand. Right now I've seen 4-8 hours which is way too long. 30 Minutes or less would be ideal. Kayo and other services are about 10 minutes from my experience.

The NZNOG video said 30 minutes IIRC. F1 has been a lot quicker than that from that thread. Was the 4-8 hours on Spark Sport?
https://www.tvnz.co.nz/shows/rugby-world-cup-2019 says "We’re broadcasting delayed coverage of all New Zealand pool matches and the quarter-final, and live coverage of the semi-finals and Rugby World Cup 2019™ final.
The 12 matches include 7 that will play live and 5 that will play with a 1-hour delay.
For viewers used to live streaming TVNZ 1 via TVNZ OnDemand or our TVNZ app, we’re really sorry but the matches won’t be available for viewing in that way. "
For those who know. ITV UK has every game streaming live for free...
30 minutes is still quite a long way. If I compare to my Sky viewing experience, where I can watch with a self imposed 20-30 minute delay to avoid half time and give me some time to fast forward injury breaks, my viewing doesn't get interrupted the way I think the Spark Sport system will work. Is anyone able to confirm? If I start watching "live", I assume I can start from the start, what happens when the "live" ends and the "on demand" occurs?
If I then have to go from the live to the ondemand and then fast forward to the same place I was in live, that will suck big time.
Re commentary, will there be 2 commentry teams per match? Presumably one from each country of the team playing? AB's vs Wallabies you can listen to TJ or GN, or you can switch to make your ears bleed listening to the Australians...
