Behodar:
FYI: It's now official.
https://about.netflix.com/en/news/an-update-on-sharing
Yeah, but absolutely no details on how you will jump though the new hoops
Not sure if it was a thing before but on the Standard and Premium plan you can add an "extra member" that can be outside your household and has their own login details etc for $7.99 a month.
Panasonic 65GZ1000, Onkyo RZ730, Atmos 5.1.2, AppleTV 4K, Nest Mini's, PS5, PS3, MacbookPro, iPad Pro, Apple watch SE2, iPhone 15+
This is going to absolutely affect my retired parents who split their time 50/50 between their main home and a holiday home on about a weekly basis. I really hope that the process of logging into a mobile in both locations once a month also somehow authorises smart tv's connected via Ethernet. If the process is not easy or simple, I can see them giving up and cancelling Netflix. With all the other streaming services around, they don't have the patience to put up with anything that doesn't just work.
I guess I consider myself in the fortunate situation that the cost of Netflix is not a serious impediment to my other spending, and these changes don't impact me because as I stated before, I considered sharing household only, despite how others may have chosen to interpret it.
I was a little surprised that extra sub-accounts are $8. I guess that's about a third rather than the 25% previously indicated. Still a reasonable value, but I an see it being less so in lower-income households. Whether they switch off Netflix or don't leave it as a default auto-renew monthly option and use it more sparingly will be interesting to see.
Even in a lower-income household, it would be hard to replicate the amount of entertainment you potentially get for upto 4 people at a time for $25 a month.
People often mistake me for an adult because of my age.
Keep calm, and carry on posting.

esawers: For $7.99 per month they get:
Their own account and password
An existing profile or a new one
All of Netflix on one device at a time
Doesn’t say what quality but it seems more like 2/3 price of the standard plan?
It would be reasonable to expect, same quality as plan being shared from, HD 4K etc.
The premium plan gives the best percentage advantage at around 1/3, the HD one not so much as the sharing cost looks same no matter what plan on.

Its is the same quality as the original plan, it says so on the netflix site.

Setting up primary location NZ
Found this. When they mention Wi-Fi they are also talking about wired connections as well so it looks like more IP based then Wi-Fi network names. Says it is not using GPS.
It implies it is just smart TV’s that have the location on them "If you don’t watch Netflix on a TV or don’t have one, you do not need to set a primary location for your account. "
I get the impression the setting of primary locations is done from a TV.
Other bit of interest "
NOTE:
"Wi-Fi network” refers to your wired or wireless internet connection. If you have multiple Wi-Fi networks, we may only recognize one as your primary location. Devices connected to Wi-Fi networks that are using different ISP accounts or that have different external IP addresses may be blocked from watching Netflix. Make sure to set or update your primary location from a device that is connected to your preferred or most used Wi-Fi network."
I don’t know if CGNAT could result in different external IP addresses for different devices, but they must be aware that it needs to work in that situation as well.
It will be interesting to see how it all works.

I think it's typically the opposite: Hundreds/thousands of households could appear to have the same external IP address.
Well this'll save me $25 a month. I barely use Netflix, but have paid for the top plan since launch and shared with a disabled friend who's income is... sporadic. Now I'll just resub on the cheap plan for a month when series I want to watch release their last episode, binge, and unsub again. It was already a struggle to justify that $25 sub when we have so many other services that cost less, so this just made it easy to trim some fat.
I get what they're hoping to accomplish with this, but I can't seeing it having a positive financial impact for them. Especially when introduced during a cost of living crisis here and in many other countries.

I sort of understand the sentiment, but what else can you find for $25 a month to provide as much entertainment? A trip for 4 to the movies would cost $100 and lasts 3 hours, excluding fuel.

For some people that's a valid argument, but it depends on what you're into.
On rare occasions when I have spare time I go for a run, or walk to the coast for a swim, either of which costs me close enough to $0. There is no way I would pay $25 a month for Netflix.
I'd imagine this sort of news is great for the likes of Apple+ and Disney+ that don't impose sharing restrictions like NF are about too
