So I just used the promo code so I can compare Al Jazeera against PLP. My first view on the PLP 3000kbps stream on my 24" 1200p screen is that it is terrible! I'd hoped that the sample stream wasn't as good but that China vs Spurs game was blocky and no where near as sharp as I'm used to when full screen. The ball movement wasn't smooth and even after a few minutes my eyes felt sore. I'll try it again tomorrow with the Man Utd game and compare the HD stream from Al Jazeera and report back.

I'm at a loss to understand why your reception is so bad. Getting all keyed up I'm watching the same game again on the big screen with my son. The quality is more than adequate it's good. I know this is a recording so buffering will be at play, but even so I don't have any gripes with the quality.

No blockiness here. You have something fundamentally wrong with your setup by what you are describing. Watching the same game I have no headaches.
Trust me there is nothing wrong with the system. Youtube flash plays fine, MediaPortal connects to my TVserver and plays H.264 1080i TV great, even Al Jazeera HD channels are more fluid. Perhaps I expected too much from the plp offering but compared to the HD service I am used to, this is a significant step down.
Anyway, roll on the start of the season tomorrow and I'll compare the two streaming providers and decide which one is best.

Edit: Sorry forgot to add that I'm connected via VDSL and on a full gigabit Ethernet setup... No wireless to media PCs.
gunnerpc: I have just resurrected my HTPC. Premierleague pass is garbage, unwatchable on my 50 inch TV. Arsenal TV, passable but not ideal. Hulu, pretty good. All US based TV was ok even going through Hola. TVNZ on demand. really good.

I feel your frustration as there are many variables. ...snip... Arsenal on the feed I had was 854x480 at a low rate of 800 kbps. They did seem to have encoding that delivered good motion performance. The change from 1280x720 down to 854x480 means only 45% of the pixels needed so more effort can go into motion or using a lower bit rate. The bandwidth requirement for Arsenal seems low and should be more immune to any network limitations. ...snip...
Update. I was watching highlights on the Arsenal player and the quality part way through got quite good, changing to higher definition, so there is adaptive change. This higher resolution stream had video portion of: Nominal bit rate : 3 200 Kbps Width : 1 280 pixels Height : 720 pixels Frame rate : 25.000 fps Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 0.139
It was averaging 3.3 Mbps and peaking to over 5 Mbps according to VLC. I don't know how to fix this rate and it started lower but as it was coming from a NZ based server it might be fairly stable. Too many choices.
Yeah the quality seems pretty much on par with the rubbishy streams they had from the asia trophy, far worse than the most recent and fairly decent city vs sunderland preview stream. Not impressed!
Got the free Tiger pass and streaming from MacBook to tv in bedroom happily watching first game of season, loving Stokes socks!, quality a lot better than I had expected! Thumbs up to Colliseum from me, I'm going to sign up tomorrow with my Tab discount, all my UK family are sick! What a deal 65 quid for a season!
