The wifi on the chromecast is its Achilles heel. Always dropping out and making its unprotected open config wireless lan, even while still being accessable from the LAN, as in it will show on the lan when I run fing or nmap across it, yet onscreen says there is no internet and to set it up and has its open wifi lan broadcast and available for anyone with the app to put settings in, and who knows if they can pull the settings off it.

A power cycle in that state gets it working again, till it next drops off the net.

Do you power off your chromecast when it's not in use? I've never had this issue. Stream plex media, even out of town, switch to YouTube or play movies.

Mine are both rock solid with Wi-Fi. Never drop off line.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

robjg63: Just FYI
I was wondering if the lovely screen saver slideshow ever stops if the chromecast is left plugged in.
I found a few forums that suggest that the standard screensaver images can use up to 10MB data per hour - ie 240MB per day?
(1GB every 4 days - aprox 7GB per month if my maths are any good)
Seems excessive - but would be enough for me to not leave it running continuously - I have it running off the power pack as the TV doesnt have a USB port.

Will have to fiddle with the screen saver/photo settings and see what I can find.

Hmm, would like to know more about that! I leave mine on all the time but will start turning it off if thats happening.

I'm supposed to respect my elders, but it's getting harder and harder for me to find one now.

I find it amusing that my Chromcasts plays better with my Windows laptop than my Android tablet

testha: Google is giving away free stuff to new and existing Chromecast users. Click below link from Chrome with the Cast extension installed that is in the same network as your Chromecast. There is different stuff depending on region. This below is confirmed working for NZ.

https://cast.google.com/chromecast/offers/"

I was shown two offers. Hulu Plus (sorry, Hulu only available in the USA) and 90 days free access to Google All Access (sorry, only available to new All Access users). Awesome, thanks Google!

People often mistake me for an adult because of my age.

Keep calm, and carry on posting.

Pretty good. I still like my Amazon Fire TV better though - remote control, and wired ethernet for much better speeds...

Absolutely. Dolby Digital + also (if equipment allows).

KiwiNZ: I find it amusing that my Chromcasts plays better with my Windows laptop than my Android tablet

What *specifically* are you trying to from the tablet? What specific tablet is it, and which version of Android? You're not being very lucid with your comments - vague assertions about your "Galaxy S" and your "Tab S" etc...plus nothing that describes what you're actually having trouble with.

Care to elaborate so that maybe you won't just be ignored and someone might be able to help you?

Or are you just trolling?
