i was supprised you still able to avoid from knowing the reault on tuesday night anyway, i did not tell you which colour is for the team which won or lost.
Apsattv, he was talking about the TV3 news coverage which had the PLP logo in the top right corner. As PLP are the official distributer of rights in this country, I'm assuming they would have to use their feeds which was why I was surprised to see a higher quality content displayed.
Yup that's exactly what I was thinking. I think we all knew that they had access to a far better quality source than they deliver via PLP (the content SKY used to deliver is proof to start with) but it just seems a bit odd that they can find a way to provide TV3 news with excellent quality video but haven't found a way to deliver it to their customers! I watched most of the Australia vs India cricket series via a legitimate online stream that was better quality than PLP and suffered no 'motion jutter' problems so I'm never going to be convinced that the news coverage looked sharper simply because it wasn't coming through an online streaming service.

Yup, just installed this on my tablet and 3000 Kbps is there. Still, 1600 Kbps is the highest bitrate I can select on my phone.

Pretty sure they have the same raw feed Sky had from previous years. It's just their encoding for the online stream is crap. Like I said a few posts up, the difference between PLP and Netflix's 1600 Kbps stream is very noticeable.

I think its simple, they are cheap and they are stealing your money.
I've installed the Android app on my Galaxy S2 and I have to say the quality is excellent.
Playing around with the bit rate, 800kbs is high enough to watch on my phone - what surprised me more is that the judder effect we have been seeing only becomes evident at 240kbps. At 800kbps the playback is very good at 1200 and 1600kbps the playback is flawless.
Okay this is not a fair comparison, my S2 screen is a lot smaller, but I saw some motion judder on a windowed playback also.
However it does show that they are capable of producing a fluid stream, which is a good prospect for producing a better picture on the big TV - they obviously have to work on their PC app.
I'm now looking forward to the Apple app to see if they can keep the quality up or even raise the bar.

cricket doesn't have the same amount of fast motion and camera panning that football does, so you wouldn't expect to see it anyway. In a way, PLP are partially to blame for picking a sport where this effect will be common. about the only worse sport for this effect would be something like NHL. Very few other sports are as fast paced as this.
And really, comparing the TV new picture with your picture at home is, frankly, dumb. Do you really think TV3 will be taking a feed via the PLPapp or browser? of course not. They will have some direct fibre feed. Heck, they may not even be taking the same feed as PLP, they might be getting it from a satellite and just putting the PLP logo over the top. The eocnomics of delivering a feed to a single TV station would likely not make sense to apply to the home consumer.
What, for example, if it costs PLP $150 to deliver that single feed to TV3? Worth it for them as they get publicity, but would you seriously expect them to do the same for home consumers? of course not. one stream would wipe out their revenue from that customer for the year, or they would need to charge several thousand dollars per customer, and nobody would buy it.
You realise this argument is like saying "Well, at work I have a 1Gb fibre link, so I don't see why that can't be done for every singal home in the country!"

Arsenal Player doesn't suffer from huge motion stutter problems either.
But it's ok for it to show up on PLP because my connection isn't as fast as TV3's? I'm sure my connection is noway near what TV3 have but PLP are an online broadcaster, if they didn't want to find a way to deliver a smooth video to my computer, why did they go into online broadcasting?

Because going through an existing online platform is the quickest way to have everything up and running while spending most of the resources to develop the apps given the time frame is short?

I don't really care about that, all I am saying is that jsut because TV3 has good footage says precisely nothing about what an online delivered service will look like.
